Anyone who has been in the motion media business for any length of time is real familiar with overpriced, under-featured camera equipment. The performance to price ratio of RED One is stunning - but even more so for the new RED cameras, based solely on their proposed specifications. Of course, the specs need to be finalized, and the field testing done. The proof is in the testing, but IMO RED will hit home runs with these new cameras.
I couldn't AGREE more with you Steve on this one!!

Btw, talking about some one that has been in the Industry for a long while, I sure do know my S%$#@!, but you are on a liege of its own, Steve when it comes to Field shooting in any and every style, and your writing is all very interesting and so much so that your experience gets translated so well on paper, that is a pleasure to read about it, and your knowledge gets taken advantage of by any one that takes but a minute to read it.

For this, not that would ever come to be, but nonetheless if there were to be but one last TATOO available and RED would have to decide if that was to go to me or you.. well I sure would like nothing more then be part of the TATOO program, but I will gladly give it up to you, as I fill that the service provided by you for the TATOO testing program, will benefit every one and including my self far better then I ever could.

So, looking forward in doing some further read on the TATOO program in your very capable hands, and don't forget to give a kiss and a hug to Pam for me, miss you guys, and hope to see you during my Cali visit at RED one of this days :)

I have to agree with you 100% even if I'd love to test out a Tattoo in POST I am sure Gibby's insight will be invaluable to us all.

But here's to hoping RED makes "just enough" so we can all provide a little something to make Epic a truly EPIC camera.

Oh and Jarred, more pics, please!

He he, don't worry my friend plenty of those coming, especially if I get the Cirque Du Soleil's contracts!! I said that if come to, I'll gladly let Steve have it, but I never said that I will not be at his side at any given chance to share the TATOO experience, he he.

Yes Gregory, it would be nice to have in off TATOO's to go around to those of us that really are up to the tremendous challenge that RED brings in this Program.

Nonetheless I'll be more then happy and trilled to see, help and read others TATOO's Testings.

And on the fixed 8x lens.. remember the ring on the lens is electronic. Which means you can program it to control focus. or iris. or zoom. Some people might want to touch focus or auto focus and use that ring for zoom control. Some might not. The choice is yours.
Jarred, as I understand it, if you choose the ring to control focus, how would you adjust the iris during a shot? or zoom in for that matter? usually lenses with automatic features have and independent ring for focus and zooming and iris control....maybe I misunderstood your phrasing.

    Ketch and Gregory,

Thank you for the very kind words...much appreciated. When I've had the time, I've always been happy to share on RED User, and directly with friends, my impressions, experiences, and concepts. Others did that for me at various times in my career, and I try to honor them by doing the same for whoever I can.

Ketch, I'll definitely give Pam a hug for you. We both look forward to seeing you sometime soon, either in California or as we pass through Las Vegas.

    Ciao!

I have a question about the upgrade. As I am sure the thousand others here have specifics depending on their situation financially/ career wise.

If someone chooses upgrade 2, and decides to sell the older R1 body down the road to i.e. to buy a scarlet or more accessories for epic, will support be available from RED for it to who I sell it to, or is the serial number nixed and all support gone for that body.

Just trying to figure out what upgrade path is the best for my business. And I fully understand why if all support is gone for it once I do sell. I am just looking for some confirmation.

    Best and Thanks

BTW - I love how your company handles the customer and does business for the film world. I hope other (need i not say names) start adopting some practices and polices you at red have started.

    - Things usually work out better than you plan. When you`re shooting a film you`re so close to it, it rarely lives up to your expectations while you`re there. You always want it to be better, more perfect. When you see a cut, maybe two or three months later, you come to it fresh. It`s generally much better than you thought it would be" RD
