Edit: Wait.. Didn't Jim say that the ring was meant to be FOCUS only? Where did the encoder thing come from?

My guess... Very doubtfull. Would require to have the ring not only transmitting but also receiving data along with a servo or something to make it stop at the right point. Sounds to expensive to have that level of engineering in a camera at that price point.. But sure would be a nice touch.

If the answer turns out to be YES.. I will be very impressed.

The Redmote ( or multiple Redmote's) can control focus.. if you want it to.

Looking at the Scarlet 2/3 Fixed lens assembly it seems like the sensor block will be further back in the body than the 2/3 Cinema. Is this correct?

I'd imagine so, to make room in the brain for the fixed lens.

and have the brain calculate the average?

... and my next question would be...
if the brain can focus on the average of the two points, is there an option so that the brain auto adjusts iris and ISO so dof will be adjusted to accommodate
both points? (or is that a little far fetched)
