BTW, the electronic controls is pretty sick. Maybe it'll just take some getting used to (controlling zoom/iris from the handle).
The prototype they showed us was a pretty sophisticated sub-assembly. My guess is, they're pretty far downstream on this. So yes, its a big deal at this point.

You should withhold judgement until you see the total ergonomic impact. Maybe having extra rings on the lens barrel would require the shooter to have a third arm to pull focus. If you want a first AC at your side the rest of your life, buy the model with interchangeable lenses.

Of course I'm sure they'd scrap it in a minute and put Scarlet back in the development cycle for another year or two if enough people squawk. Is this issue a deal-breaker for you or are you willing to adapt?

I'm hoping that due to the less common nature of wire transfers they might be less policed then credit cards.

    Hope that helps.

It's a hideous plan, but of one man, that's for sure. It's very ironic that I worship the RED system having to withstand our own red revolution that puts so many barriers to purchase such a revolutionary camera!

And on the fixed 8x lens.. remember the ring on the lens is electronic. Which means you can program it to control focus. or iris. or zoom. Some people might want to touch focus or auto focus and use that ring for zoom control. Some might not. The choice is yours.
    Jarred,
    couple of questions.....

    - will touch focus be only available on Red electronic lenses or will Red be able to control focus on nikon/canon lenses.

    - will there be a function to calibrate out breathing on the Red lenses? If so will it be available on nikon/canon zooms.

    Dave,

That wont happen. You either like it, or you don't. If you don't, no hard feelings.

I'm not judging or squawking... was just curious.

I'm definitely getting a Scarlet no doubt about it. I am wondering why, in the beginning, they decided to have only one ring? But I'll hold off until I can actually use it in person. If the Red team decided to do it, I'm sure it's for the best.

Either way, Scarlet fixed lens with 1 ring or 10 rings will still be hands down better than anything on the market even close to that price range.

    Thank you.
We do know for certain that 8x lens for the fixed lens camera will NOT be made available as an interchangeable version.

Ages ago they announced MiniRED primes for the 2/3" interchangeable, but we haven't yet heard anything on interchangeable zooms.

Personally, I'm thinking of eventually ending up with one fixed lens 2/3" brain, one 2/3" interchangeable brain with some primes, looking for faster lenses, and wider and longer lenses than the zoom.
I'll get two sets of modules, one handheld lightweight setup with the handle, and one full-on tripod setup with the REDmote.
I can pick the module setup and which brain (based on the lens I want to use) for each situation, along with having some options for two-camera setups and stereoscopic if I can swing it with one zoom and one prime.

Hope so, I don't think there is any backing out of that promise now that you've said it...

Thanks but I am wondering if we'll have few hard stops or many small increments when selecting aperture.

I'm guessing that they are going to do some sort of hard stop for all of them (OLED??)
