There is something in those renders of the RED Electronic FF lens that nobody has picked up yet.... something that is actually pretty incredible ( and a first )
OK now I'm sweating. Remembering the first AF attempts I almost can't believe how much autofocus has become such an integral part of photography. The idea of tapping to focus (thank you 3GS) and letting the shot come to me is one of those things that would allow me to get much more useable footage per shoot.

I understand that much of RED's audience lives in a world where you can have another "take" but I almost exclusively capture in a world where that's impossible. If RED can seriously make an AF system that is useable for motion then you have another game changer on your hands.

    He he, DITTO Steve!!

This time around Jim sure outdid himself with the new announcements!

Couple of Tatoo's would be perfect to start filming "Chronicles of Perseverance" in january.

Btw, hope you are in Cali next week as I'm planning a visit to RED HQ on wednesday and love to have lunch or dinner with you and Pam.

I'm guessing if you're a RED1 owner, you in the elite group...everyone else...you're not...and you'll get your camera when we feel you should get one.

It seems Red company is going along the Big Hollywood boys club, sure I understand the decadation of fellow & first come owners...but I thought it would be nice to see some more Scarlet news. First news to our loyal customers and the rest has to wait.

Not a lot of people had money this year nor the last (previous year) to buy R1 camera and acces. Due to the economy and now we can't use the upgrade path since we didn't buy a camera before the 30th. Seems pretty silly.

Now, you have the Tattoo program, for qualified and asked filmmakers, I'm guessing like you did in the past with S.S, Peter Jackson, David Fincher, etc. Great for those, but suck for others.

Not sure what to say...I thought you are the voice of "Independent change" but now I feel you are going a direction like most corporate companies.

We'll see in end of November to hear more...well, we hope.

I'm right there with you, Ralph. Functional AF during for motion shooting would be huge. This is something the VDSLRs haven't even attempted.

I keep looking at the renders and I'm loving that electronic lens. Looks like a 24mm-?. The witness mark read-out looks great and easy to read. It looks like it could definitely be illuminated, would be awesome of it's an OLED display with dynamic markings, able to display imperial or metric marks by changing preferences in camera... OK, that might be a bit of a stretch...

I see AF and MF switch. Next to that looks like it says "VC" On/Off. Is that something like "Vibration Control" or RED's flavor of image stabilization? That's what I assumed it was when I first saw the render yesterday. Also like the focus and zoom rings. Nice and fat and able to be gear-driven.

I thought the same thing when I saw the render. That would definitely be a first.

Really looking forward to the upgrade.

Unfortunate for anyone needing to offload their Red One now though, looks like it just took a major hit.

I was seriously considering buying a RED-ONE along with an associate of mine, but now we're pretty puzzled by the last announcement. What happens if you decide to buy it now?

    Hey Harry,

Go ahead and imagine it. LDS support means more demand for ARRI lenses. I am quite sure they were happy to get it on there..

    Charles,

please take no offense, especially coming from an Italian which half of the time reads or writes the right thing in the wrong way :) but I think you not only have completely missed Jim's point, but have entirely gotten it wrong!

The benefits given here to prior R1 owners, is well put and very well deserved by those that believed in Jim's vision with RED and dove right in purchasing cameras when every one else was saying they were vaporware and not really knowing for sure how things would work, and had to deal with few bumps here and there, and even so RED's service and attention to fix any issues and give many upgrades (FREE) was fantastic those early adopters did take their chances, we all did!

Now is great to see Jim bring in the rewards, also as to keep his promise in rendering Obsolence Obsolete! Which He felt could be better achieved with the modular system of Epic, so here is giving very generous upgrades paths to the earlier R1 adopters and I see nothing wrong with that, is like you just got in a store to buy something and there is avery long line, and you are not willing to give those that arrived first, before you, the writhe to shop before you.

So I hope you understand why Jim is going to give priority to the Epic and not just any Epic but to specifically the Epic-X which can be purchased only by existing RED ONE owners.

Scarlet and the rest of the Epic family will not be far behind so no reason to worry, but I firmly believe that during this past years Jim, has more then proven to be so far apart form the rest of the boys that is almost insulting for you to state that Jim is only favoring the Hollywood Big Boy's Club.
