OK, someone help me here. I think the RED GUNNER is the sexiest camera/rig I've ever seen. Reminds me of the hi-end Super 8 cameras that I lusted after as a younger man. By the time I could afford a Canon 1014-XLS, they stopped making them!
Anyway, back to my question. On the Gunner I assume it's a shoulder pad right under the viewfinder. So how does one place that on a shoulder and look through the viewfinder at the same time? I know the viewfinder flips up, but does it flip sideways too? Or, would you need to stick an LCD on it?

Damn straight! Thats what makes these programs so great. I may well be consciously misconstruing your point here. This is the best case scenario. Just like i don't want to be a pop corn salesman, i want to a cinematic artist. Why should the RED team just churn out the same tech other companies are doing...sticking with the fold.
I'd rather have quality and ingenuity over quantity economical.
The electronics industry is full of White Elephants, and equipment that promises things for marketablility (like a politician just before election), RED are showing that they are delivering what they promised.
'Redefining Cinema' is the values that RED are TRULY following (That is a large cinema chain's mission statement by the way...cough!!).

Martin,

I've banned you for a day. Not to strangle criticism, but so you learn a bit how to behave. Don't pee on the carpet when you are invited into somebody's home.

It looks like the Red EPIC and the new 3.5K ARRI digital cameras have similar release dates and similar prices. Interesting times for us film makers!
I agree, the RED GUNNER configuration looks awesome! Since the RED body is fairly wide, it seems to me that the Bomb EVF, positioned as shown in the rendering, would be right about where it needs to be once it is raised up on it's hinge. Looking at it closely, it seems like the EVF might be mounted on a sideways slide mount, or a perforated plate with several mounting locations...at least I assume the lever that is visible is a locking device for such a mount.
Can't wait to see the RED GUNNER from a few different angles to figure out what all the mysterious bits and pieces are.
Tom
