YOu're mst likely going to have to rent or borrow one, as I've been told that on the Jewish high holidays, they are not even allowed to turn on a light or ride in a car.

That's true. I'm sensitive to those issues; I used to work for a firm where I had a fair number of Hasidic colleagues. They had the elevators programmed to stop on every floor automatically on Sabbath so they could be ridden without pushing any buttons; apparently the pushing of the button was what was considered prohibited work. Very culturally educational to a guy from a wee town in the Scottish highlands!

Mike: Thanks for taking my call. I appreciate that our salesman's error inconvenienced you and apologize. As I said on the phone we're willing to fix this any way we can that suits you with the least further inconvenience to you.

For the future -- we close mid-afternoon Fridays and are closed all day every Saturday. This month and October are replete with Jewish holidays and we're closed for most. Our holiday schedule is on our site.

We don't have a back-door pro-only fix-a-problem option. When we're open, we're open and when we're closed the place is shuttered. Since most of our holiday closings are because orthodox holiday observance includes a rule that no commerce is permitted at all, we cannot maintain a skeleton crew of non-Jewish employees.

Once again, thanks for being so understanding on the phone and again -- my apologies.

PS I see you're in Mamaroneck, I grew up in New Ro, right around the corner. :-)

Henry, thanks for reaching out to me yesterday. Problem got solved; I managed to retrieve my EOS mount so was able to shoot (with very satisfactory results) with the 'wrong' lens. I'll drop it off at B&H and pick up a replacement tomorrow morning.

Thanks again, and Sabbath/Holiday issues understood. Inconvenient, but I'd prefer dealing with people of firm principles to those with insufficient principles!

I am not Jewish, but in a certain sense, I admire and respect the traditions and beliefs that would allow Henry and the folks at B&H to put "everything in neutral" for a day or two in this fast-paced, mile-a-minute world we live in. I can tell you that I have been to trade shows where B&H would have a substantial booth, (best candies and tchotchkes, by the way), and they would close it up for the Sabbath while the trade show continued on, only to re-open after the Sabbath. I am sure, from a financial standpoint, observing the Sabbath and religious holidays must cost them a lot. But, in the end, I suppose they answer to a "higher authority." Bottom line: When you deal with B&H you just have to know that there are certain times they are closed and, as the saying goes, "... and that's the way it is ..." Just an hour ago I placed an order for something that I need next week, in the hope they can get it out before tomorrow evening.

I think you make you & your fire dept look very bad making such a settlement.
It sounds to me as some buildings pass when they should not & vise versa, sounds very dodgy to me.
