Epic Feature Request: one-button Framerate Change

How about a user-defined button being able to switch the camera from "normal" to another user-defined off-speed framerate, (maintaining shutter angle) - a very handy feature expected on all modern film cameras?

Noted, you want to go to one other speed? - Also some comments about RED ONE.

The only reason Varispeed is a distinct mode in the UI is because you don't get to record audio when operating in it.

a) Maintaining shutter angle - if you want to do that, just set the shutter MODE to RELATIVE.

b) If sound is not an issue, there is no reason you can't stay in Varispeed all the time, then adjust adjust fps by using USER KEYS or EVF MENUS.

THe "PS" or "Program Speed" button has been a feature of the ARRI camera lineup since the early 1990's. DPs and ACs have grown quite fond of the ability to switch between the "base" frame rate and an agreed-upon and pre-programmed "off speed" within one second. You can even flip the switch while the camera is running.
Assuming that there are no underlying software issues, could we not have this ability if certain parameters are set up properly in advance?
If this means keeping the shutter on "RELATIVE" (which in my opinion BTW, is "normal" since there is nothing normal about the shutter not changing when the framerate changes...) and disabling onboard audio ahead of time then that may be OK to some users.
In fact, your solution of staying in VARISPEED is a great idea. The point that I think you are missing is that we've all grown accustomed to pressing ONE BUTTON and having a pre-programed speed come up instantly, without navigating menus and scrolling wheels.
Unless there is some sort of underlying software issue (which I don't pretend to understand for a moment) then why not offer this?

No no no... Specifically here, we are wanting a one-touch solution. On some types of shoots, the director is apt to call for a change of framerate seconds before rolling.

The good thing about the Arri switch (and plenty of others on other kinds of cameras) is that it's a very small, but easy to find two-position switch. Difficult to switch it by accident. Red only does push-button switches, which are far more prone to accidental use, especially the side buttons and on the EVF.

Personally, I'd probably want to set up such a button somewhere less easy to bump, like on the back of the Red One, or now that I think of it, on a remote switch plugged into an accessory socket.

I think it would be nice to program a button to be like recording a ACTION in photoshop, so that you are creating a script. This way you could record the moves it takes to go from 4K 16:9 24FPS to 2K 16:9 90fps, but hitting the button once and letting it run a script to make the changes.

Maybe the script could be created and saved to an SD card? Then you could have scripts to remove all the wear and tear on that joystick and drilling down into so many menus just to make simple changes.
