  1. #1 Red - Metafuze - Symphony Workflow Question
    Hi,

Just a few workflow questions about Red and Avid. This is my first red job and I'm more at the stage of getting a workflow in place than firefighting!

I plan to output 1080p to HDCam from an Avid Symphony Nitris online. Offline will be done in Media Composer.

From what I've read metafuze seems like the best option to achieve this however I have a few uncertainties:
I plan to output DNxHD 30 MXF rushes and their corresponding ALE from metafuze and then take all this footage into MC for offline.
When cut is complete how do I conform from metafuze? I am believe that I can output a 1080p MXF from metafuze however will it take an EDL or something similar? How reliable is this? What's the best way to relink the online media in Symphony?

Any advise or tips would be great.
    Thanks for your time.
    Gavin

Might I question the workflow? Media Composer is generally considered an editorial tool and Symphony Nitris is the finishing tool. You appear to have them back the front in your proposed workflow. (Much better color correction in Symphony over MC).

MetaFuze does not take a pull list at this time. That workflow would be done with something like Monkey. How many hours of dailies are we talking about? Some jobs can just go ahead and work in DNxHD 175 depending on your storage. And Philip - I think he has the workflow right, he is starting in MC and finishing in Symphony.

    Ok.

So essentially if I want to do a low res offline I shouldn't use metafuze.
I am aware of the workflow using RedRushes however this is very time consuming. Especially since we have a program (metafuze) which will convert R3D directly into MXF.
RedRushes is however probably the correct path to take.

    Thanks for your help.

if you have a mac(intel 10.5) at your disposal look in your personal messages for a possible unofficial (but working) solution
