What happens when you start recording?

The fans are designed to be on whenever you're not recording for maximum cooling, and then to go quieter or silent when you are recording depending on the menu settings.

BTW made me think of a weird feature request for RED ONE...

very often on set the sound engineer complains about camera noise in between takes making it difficult for him/her to hear the general room atmosphere before the camera itself started recording... so

what about a user button option that would put the camera in silent (fake record) mode for about 20 seconds so they can hear any room noise before we start rolling and without us recording a dummy take...

    Absolutly +1 on that!

I hate having to shut down the camera for audio to record "room tone"

Can we have a manual shut off/override?

I just roll through room tone with fan on silent.
Get the logger to mark it up as "junk".

As an Academy Award winning cinematographer said the first time he used the RED One, "It is the first camera that gets quiet when you hit record".
