Redmote pro,, there's the answer I was looking for
I had the same thought as Ben Holmes... there are a lot of us who intend to run around with these things hand holding them...
They're selling it as a DSMC... with the idea that there WILL be MANY people who will NOT be mounting it on a tripod or on a standard handle rig.
And I have to agree... it looks really blocky... I hope perhaps with the bottom handle it'll be relatively comfortable to hold...
But I think it's a valid question. Have the Red folk been out messing around with these for a period of time just holding them in their hands?
The Scarlet fixed 8X will in particular be judged against cameras like the 5D mark II when it comes to this sort of form-factor debate.
Obviously the FF35 Scarlet or the S35 scarlet... with a bunch of modules attached... will be a different situation calling for proper shoulder mount or handle mount or tripod or whatever you like...
but there's a large part of the smaller scarlet's market who are going to want to fling this thing around like a pimped up DSLR and I sincerely hope it can do that without feeling and looking too awkward.
What a 2010 this is going to be!!
So, will the 2/3" and the S35 be released at the same time or is there a separate roll out for each respectfully?
Did I see correctly that that 2/3" had a Redmote on back reading Full 4K
Mike, $I understand that $5k is expensive (probably $6-7k with that pro-looking Redmote and the inevitable rails and handle accessories)...but look at it this way, you'll be able to rent it for about the same price as a Sony EX-3. If you're broke, it might be worth working towards making sure your computer can run RedCine and getting skilled with the available sample footage, so you can bring your imaging skills to a set and make some more cash, or be ready to handle the output if/when you rent.
