The Mini Primes use a Mini PL mount... basically a scaled down version of a PL mount. This is different than the RED PRIME mount, which has a much larger image circle to accommodate full frame sensors.

And I cant wait for you guys to see the optics on the mini-primes... Well over 100 lines of resolution, Distortion incredibly low, Chromatic and Spherical Aberration is virtually absent. We spent alot of time on these little guys..

so tempted to just wait and save a few grand to buy a scarlet 2/3" with mini primes rather than going with the fixed :)

I thought the interchangeable Scarlet was cheaper? (I mean just the body).

I cringe when I see the 2 month window. How close will we be to hitting in this mark? I already automatically added 2 more months on to that before I figured I may have one in my hands. Is this an accurate assumption?

i wouldnt panic just yet it said may-june thats 6 months at least add to that any extra time for problems and then some more to let the red owners get theres first it could be a while.

I'm unsure whether it was part of the planning, that at this point in the list something really important should go here. I can picture Jarred or Jim planning the list. Its not just thrown together in any old order... Ha!!

Then again it could be something super special...like the ability to overlay images for frame matching etc...

Of course, but we have managed to deal with that issue quite well for years now. As long as the camera is ready to start recording within a few seconds of changing the battery pretty much anyone can plan ahead enough to find a 10 second break in the action.

I find that the noise, camera shaking and talent distraction factor makes any hot-swap battery system not very useful.

Give us instant boot times and you can spend your time engineering other more useful features!

That is funny.. glad to hear it works out for someone out there! for some reason my experience is battery change time always happens at exactly the worst moment :)

At any rate... boot up time is mere seconds..... and we do have a sleep mode that is even quicker. Not instant, but not too far off of your Nikon or Canon.

Forgive my ignore here - 1, are the Mini Primes electronically-controlled, and 2, is the Mini PL mount a separate Electronic mount than listed on today's post? (RED/Nikon/Canon for $500/ea). Thanks! Looking forward to seeing some footage! I can't tell you how excited I am over all your guy's hard work :)

Edit: Ah, just saw the line "New digital design...REDmini Mount". Safe to assume that the REDmini Mount is a $500 Electronically-controlled Mini PL-mount?

The fixed 2/3 looks like a great deal. I am a little more confused on what to get.

Those details we will sort out as we get close... there is still lots of time and since the machines are already moving, we should have built up a good amount of stock by the time Scarlets start shipping.

Will RRD encoding be an open format so other developers can integrate?

It wouldn't have to "open" for third parties to have export-encode options in their apps. You could do that with an SDK.
