One of us needs to somehow write this into a script.

How about using the same concept here - UI ?

There will always be different preferences because perceptions and tastes differ. I think group agreement on making something fixed in digital realm can and should be avoided - if feasible.

Maybe Redcine could have additional feature to rearrange camera UI based on what you need and how you need it. I suggest making MODES - for shooting mode (quick shooting presets at few taps on a touchscreen), camera menu mode (detailed/simplified) and UI mode (arrangement/zoom in preferences/fullscreen options).

These cameras will be used for many purposes and camera interface customization might enable them to become more practical. Also, that way any camera user can bring his/hers own shooting/camera setup on a card (or turn it on wirelessly from a laptop) and start using any other camera as own.

I strongly suggest enabling this if it's "reasonably" possible from manufacturer POV.
UI modularity would be great, specially with a quick-and-dirty app to make profiles on the computer.

Just make a profile, load to the card (is there a card slot in Scarlet/Epic? Anyway, Wi-fi it) and load on camera.

If it's not cumbersome to make it on camera, It would be awesome.

I didn't see anyone confirming that the tab was for it, I guess the tab is a general menu, but within the general menu there must be something for this.

There's no use arguing over that which is inconceivable

    I can already foresee a sub-forum for "Touchscreen Custom Skins" - user-submitted GUI's
Great idea. Ideas and comments are welcome.

And to the question: can you create and save custom layouts?.....

    Yes.

Agreed... I think the Look Around Area should be kept clear, if possible.

I ask because I'm seriously considering subsidizing the purchase of my Scarlet by downgrading my MacPro to the iMac.

Not ideal but would enable me to get the Scarlet and still be able to somewhat handle the RED footage.

Anyone know, or am I in limbo?
Well, I hope so. Ordered mine a Week ago... But i really think that there should be no problem.

I would like to use the Scarlet S35 with 1.6X crop factor zooms from Nikon, like the Nikon AF 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX, which is a very good and versatile zoom, with minimal breathing and really sharp. (It´s the best inexpensive zoom I know) It should be like shooting at 3K cropping the 5K sensor.... It´s going to be possible to crop the Scarlet S35 sensor?

    Thanks,

    Juan
Hi Juan, Nikon's DX format is very close in size to APS-C which is very close to S35 so there will be almost no crop factor using that lens on the S35 Scarlet.

    The Nikon DX format is 23.7mm x 15.7mm while the S35 Scarlet is ~ 30mm x 15mm.

The S35 Scarlet has three crop options that we know of: 4k, quad HD and 2k.

If you touch the histogram will it expand to fill the screen?

Stuart is it then possible to have a hard wire between the camera and redmote? Would be very helpful for underwater work as RF doesn't go through water well. It would be nice to have it outside the housing in a separate box with hardwire into housing and camera.

The 27" should be able to handle it, maybe not in real time but if its full specced it should be able to pull off 2k I think. As far as I know, transcoding maybe a small length of time but at the end of the day looking at how people have pulled off some stuff even off the Macbook Pro which has less specs then the current iMac. It should be able to do Scarlet without a problem.

I might even get one after they update all the chips next octoberish

as far as the announcement goes...

Guys at RED. Hats off, drinks all around and a bottle of whatever you want. I've never been so satisfied with a camera nor had the belief I could be even more satisfied and brought into buying more cameras!! Definitely looking to get a scarlet and epic. Given those prices even maybe the RED Mini Primes! Just wish there was a RED Mini Zoom available on launch too...but hey...who knows..you guys might surprise xD
