I don't know why I forgot this. I also don't know why I included the primes in a question about servo zooms. Must be because it's 4 am here.. I need to get over the excitement and get to bed....

I guess I wanted to know if we had rocker control zoom from a handle like on a B4 mount broadcast lens. And if there was a servo planned to gear into those Primes for autofocus and iris control (possibly attached to the gunner if that is one of it's functions)

Would be nice to get the low down on the gunner too.
And a little picture to swoon over of the complete Scarlet fixed package as it has been announced.

I can't believe that Red have included the redmote in the fixed lens package, I was so sure from their statements that it would be a basic package, just enough to get you shooting, that they would just stick in the handle for control. Very generous if you ask me...

When I saw the Redmote Pro listed (before the pictures of it appeared) I was sure that the rice difference was because it had a live preview monitoring facility built in. I guess it still could be. No comments on that so far from RED. Seems like a big step in price to just add a control dial for focus pulling(though I'm sure there's more to it than that, I'm too tired to go compare the pro to the standard redmotes in the pictures).
    no problem

no one at red has told us yet how the fixed lens package will use batteries but the battery module and side handle are both not part of the package.

The redmote is cheaper so they added that (i think its better that way), so thats why no side handle but we are still just waiting for more info.

the redmote pro appears to have a dial of some sort which I am guessing looks like it could be used as a follow focus for electronic lenses. This would be huge because the redmote is wireless and an AC could pull focus without even being next to the camera itself. If my guess is correct I would think that alone would be enough for the price increase but I am sure more features than that are included

And if you really want to play dangerously let the Director sit by the monitor and pull focus!!

LOL Good suggestion. Just imagine the words EPIC, BOMB, and something that almost spells REMOTE. Those words just don't belong together, especially at an airport. And mounting them onto something that doesn't look like a traditional camera doesnt help either :).

true, I got swarmed by security on my last trip because I had a multi hex wrench tool that looked like a pocket knife on x ray. They ended up letting me go with my tool. I would under stand if it was phillips or flat head but who holds up a plane with a hex wrench

    thats all 1850 together

then it says redvolt battery. I used to be under the impression you needed the module adapter and the battery module to use batteries if you didn't have the side handle. It seems they have given you the option of putting a redvolt right into the brain. Of course I could be wrong.

    That being said 4750 - 1850 =2900 for the cost of a brain+awesome zoom lens + battery

    An awesome deal.

the cinema is 2750 which if you add the same accessories (1850) is 4600 and that is before the cost of the battery module (1000 with 2 batts) which brins it to 5600 and the module adapter (300) which brings it to 5900 and then of course a lens (at least 1000 for a good zoom)

6900 for a full functioning camera before media including power with the option of interchangeable lenses rather than 4750 for the fixed.

In my mind the cinema version at this price with these specs allows you more flexibility for adding batteries, of course lenses, and other modules. You are paying for options here.

Also the 4750 fixed is a kit. I am sure they knocked the price down for the kit compared to building your own camera from scratch
Thanks for writing that out Peter!!

I'll have to give this a lot of thought. There's a huge price difference just to be able to switch lenses, which is something I don't think I could live without.
I have lenses, so is it correct to say that $6000 is the minimum price to have a working camera, nothing in that list can be left out? (excluding CF cards for right now).

How do you connect the bundled battery of the Fixed Kit?

I guess we'd have to buy a handle or module for that.

I got it! It's a wireless battery! Remote power!

With all the extraordinary things that RED is putting up I would be only half-surprised...

Ditto - I just got my first Zeiss prime this month and I absolutely love it, but I'm not committing to any more until I see the Mini Primes in action!
