It also depends on another button for activating focusing which would have to be also on the handle but under pointing finger. This seems like the most natural, and most intuitive solution to me.

What I tried to explain is that with touchpad you'd have a non linear realtime control over monitor surface and reaction speed dependent only on your thumb speed (no digital path lag) which in the case of a joystick you'd miss, or it would be unnatural - digitally controlled by strength or angle of pressure, hence limiting. One example which might be close enough is computer gaming world where there is absolutely no chance you can be as fast and precise with a joystick or controller as with a mouse, because mouse is as fast as your hand is. You can also imagine controlling your computer cursor with a joystick.
Actually I can :) It's called a pointing stick and a lot of people still buy Lenovo(IBM) notebooks because they find the pointing stick faster than a touch pad. (I happen to be one of them. :) A more appropriate comparison than a mouse to a touchpad would be a graphics tablet but mapped to the LCD/VF. Still I find the stick much more accurate and faster than a touchpad. Have you ever tried a pointing stick out? Either way, for run and gun computer aided focusing both would probably work better than a finger.

    Jarred, question.

What about the 75mm T4 miniPrimes for 2/3 Scarlet? When are we gonna have those ready?

BAM!!! Love it... I still can't wait to hear more about the Red FF35 lenses though. I bet those will be ridiculous.

Will we be able to set a user button to a quick switch from S35 (and later FF35) to the 2/3" sensor area? This may give run and gun some very nice magnification capabilities! Hit a button, catch the action, catch the nuance in an extreme CU, catch a new and unnamed species! Then go back to shooting un-holy eye-bleeding resolution with a wide to normal range on a 24-70mm.

I suppose the camera would automatically have the Red Code remain the same unless you were or if switching up to a larger sensor. In that case it may automatically select the best Red Code that your brain can handle at the framerate currently selected..?

Re: Joystick vs Finger vs Stylus.

Goodluck keeping up with even slowly moving objects with a small joystick. I'm pretty good at Call of Duty but tracking a target on 7" screen using something like a Analog stick is literally a game in of itself. On the other hand I can tap away hitting small buttons instantly on my tabletPC without effort. A stylus is orders of magnitude more useful than a joystick.

    Jarred,
Where can I find this footage you shot?

Well, I'd say you have some incredible coatings. Losing less than 1/4 stop is impressive.

Now you can never say that I never did anything for you :)

I can only assume these are:

    Top-left: HDMI (of course)
    Bottom (from left):
    - Headphones
    - AUX-power/GPI (times two)
    - RED mini-drive connector
    - Main power in...

    Is that right Jarred?

    22. 3-axis internal motion sensor and GPS latitude / longitude data
In addition to the lat/long will the gps time also be recorded? Is this data recorded on a per frame basis? Is red willing to disclose what rate sensor part is they are using so we might be able to get some more detailed specs on it? Is the lens data also recorded (focal length, focus setting, aperture, etc)?
    23. True Shutter Sync In/Out and Genlock
By 'True Shutter Sync', does this mean that when we trigger the camera externally (from ttl signal?) that the entire frame begins integration at the same time or is there any sort of rolling shutter (electronic or otherwise)? Does the Sync In trigger the start of integration or does the duration of the pulse also determine the integration time (i.e. do we have external realtime control over integration time)?

Are these various capabilities applicable to all the scarlet/epic cameras? Are these capabilities built into the brain or some other module (e.g. Pro I/O)?
