We recently bought a brand new modulus 3000 (we have two of them already). We use them on red cam with AJA HD 10MD3 digital to analog down converter. The new Modulus 3000 that we received works fine on every ARRI cam that we have 235, 435, 535, S16SR3 on 12V and 24V cable. But it refuses to work with RED cameras (we have two of them 1958 and 4990). We received power supply cable for RED to Modulus 3000. The new cable for red works with old two Modulus 3000, so it’s no cable issue. The voltage form RED aux power is around 15V. ARRI have 12V and 24V output and new Modulus work fine on all ARRI cams. Manufacturer of Modulus don’t know what seems to bee the problem.
Have anybody have or had similar problem ever?

Does the new Modulus 3000 draw more current than the old ones. The RED Aux Power is unregulated and from previous posts there seems to be considerable variation between RED One units in terms of what current they can in actuality supply to accessories. If it's on the limit you may see this kind of behaviour.

Power Input: 10-28 Vdc@ 1.2A (450mA nomimal) is the listed draw of the modulus 3000 and the rear outputs are listed as supplying 1.5A. The D-tap on the battery plate being far more reliable, and reccommendable if what Eric says is true, but you didn't specify which connector you were using.

We are using lemo connector aux power from RED cam 12V to Hirose connector on Modulus 3000. The new Modulus drowns 550mA on 10V. The test that we made shows that RED cam can deliver more than 700mA on 12V aux power outputs.
We will try with D-tab on batt. Plate cable.
    Thank you.

If the power draw spikes on initial startup then the RED's Lemo port will shut off to protect the circuit. So while the Modulus may draw less than the port's rating, there is a possibility that its momentary initia; draw is enough to cause a shutdown.

We be calling it D-Tap this side, I thought cos it looks like a D with the rounded corners on the one side. Why do you guys refer to it as P I've wondered?

P is short for power. It is called either successfully.

Yes, that is the problem with new Modulus 3000. It drew’s too much power on start up and RED cam shuts down power to protect the own sockets.
We made D-tap to Hirose cable for Modulus and now it's working fine.
    Thank you all for help.
Guys from CIT should now that new Modulus 3000 can't work with RED cam thru Lemo AUX power like the old Modulus 3000.
They should warn us, like you need D-tap connection for RED cam with new Modulus 3000.
