i believe the feature kind of started, maybe not (STARTED) but first seriously implemented that i've seen with the SI-2K. It has this exact same mode that proved to be insanely useful. the best part about it was that you could remotely do it with their laptop system so the DP/camera op could just say, hey do it, and ur DIT would spin it up for them and they have their overlay shot and have a perfect match composition shot. i don't see why this couldn't be accomplished with wireless REDMOTE, or even wirelessly on your own macbook pro since the cameras are gonna have built in ethernet or wireless and what not. it gives you tons of flexibility, and would be amazing if they put it out on all their camera systems.

Absolutely needed, although typically its a monitor thing, if they can get it in the camera thats all the more better.

Please include this feature Jim! I'm buying a Scarlet regardless, but it would be really, really helpful.

If this feature is included in the scarlet though surely it would take a little bit more processing power in the scarlet and chances are it would only be potentially in the 5K and 6K scarlet isn't it?

you know, i'm not sure we're really talking about that much processing power for a function like this... though i don't know what all goes into it on the tech side, so i really don't know - but it seems pretty simple and straightforward.

i don't think it's a matter of being able to process it - they just thought it was a higher level function so put it on the epic and withheld it from the scarlet line... i think we'd really like to see this on all the cameras though. potentially very useful.

i can understand from a business perspective they may want to reserve certain features for the bigger cameras, we're all used to it. however, i also recognize that this functionality would be seriously advantageous to have on board.

on another note - i think all we've heard about is previous scene overlay... i think it would also be helpful to be able to load up a captured still or other image as well into the camera.

Would be a great tool in many ways. The continuity in documentary work would profit a lot of it too. A kind of "editing during shooting tool". It should be applied in Scarlet for sure! Scarlet will be often used in small crews without a lot of monitoring/on set editing stuff around.
    Great idea Paul!

If this feature is not dependent on Epic internals, absolutely welcome. What is important to understand is that Epic pricing will be based on high fps + added advanced features, so we'll see...

Shot matching will be just one of the many potential uses for this feature.

There were numerous requests before also that besides .r3d file overlay it would be useful to have a loaded picture overlay.
It would also come in handy to have a picture alpha overlay (with invert option).

I'd could use the touchscreen advantage for intuitive vertical overlay opacity slider (in the lookaround area) and overlay wipe control (touch the edge of the frame and pull over the screen), both horizontal and vertical, for more matching/comparing options.

and don't forget, for narrative work it would prove to be a vital tool also. how often does anybody shoot a film sequentially to the script? sometimes u only get a chance to shoot parts of a scene and need to go back to it, u'll need to match everything, and overlay to can give u that option, not to mention reshoots and so on. there are other ways to get that as they've been doing it since the dawn of film, but it's just another feature that will make doing this things that much easier. it doesn't need to be on all the scarlet models, maybe even just the top end one? i understand that the more features u put in scarlet, the less appealing getting a full on epic, but i'm sure nobody will complain if it only existed on the top end scarlet models.

What about a histogram overlay? I've often thought it would be useful to have the camera show you what it thinks is proper exposure while you dial in your own above or below it however you see fit. It would give you the comfort of auto exposure with the control of manual.
