  1. #1 Zeiss Macro Manual Focus Lenses
Still learning here, but just wanted anyone's thoughts on the Zeiss Macro 100mm f/2 ZF Makro-Planar T* Manual Focus Lens.

Would this be a good lens on Red considering its macro properties? How about the 50mm macro version?

Appreciate any comments. Thanks for helping a newbie out.

    Hi Ivan,

Thanks so much for the detailed response and links! Reading through them now, so far the reviews are superb. I am seriously considering trying at least one of these lenses on Red.

Do you have a Red on reservation and will you be using one of these on your camera? Thanks again!

If you really need a zeiss macro go for the 100.
I would also consider a nikon 105 macro, superb lens with a smaller tag on it.

    Cheers

    PS
I own 2 of them (zeiss zf) and love them. They are sure build to last.

Thanks for the info guys, am definitely leaning towards the 100mm macro. Won't be until next year though that we get our camera *sigh*

I'm selling my 100mm Zeiss Oppenheimer macre. Yes it is considerably more expensive than these still versions but it is fully motion picture converted from the Zeiss Contax. It has all gearing, has been ruggedised for focus, has compensation marking and does 1:1 scale. I'm asking USD $3.8K.

^^^^ thats a great lens. It has a higher magnification than the new ZF 100 100mm. (1:1.2 vs 1:2) Also the gearing is great, and it DOESN'T FOCUS BACKWARDS like the ZFs

Almost all the Zeiss lenses made in Contax mount focus cinewise.
There is some truly amazing glass made in this mount.

I have used it with my Aaton for years (S16) and because you are essentially shooting through the very centre of the glass it is exceptional...just not using it personally enough. When you think S35 is effectively half full frame 35mm stills and s16 is many times smaller than S35 then imagine how much of the lesn is used. Lenses have most of their issues on the periphery of the lens so their is no distortion and incredible sharpness. This lens of course cost many more dollars than what I am asking....no compromises...it rocks.
