Hey, I know this might be an incredibly stupid question, but how in the world do you checksum without a 3rd party app? Can you checksum folders? I'm trying to nail this down.
Thanks for your time.

md5 in a terminal window will give you a checksum mD5 hash of any file.
R3d Data Manager is easier because the hard work of looking and matching checksums is done for you automatically. Its worth the money, but it can be done a number of different ways. I call the terminal 'Manual Mode', But you have to create the log yourself.
aasync if you want it for free, but r3d manager has more features
You cant checksum a whole folder at once, and really you wouldnt want to. You are only really concerned when a R3D file changes, not a QT or RSX file.
R3D Data Manager started out as a bash script that ran in the terminal for the automatic creation, storage and comparison of checksums. Obviously its come a long way since then. All other file copy utilities, if they use checksums, dont store them for future reference (which is why they dont meet many bond completion/studio requirements).
