"Real" 2:1 - editor needs help

So, editing a short film in FCP. When they shot it (4K) they told me "now, you'll have to add letterbox because RED doesn't shoot real 2:1, it's 2.3something:1.

Now, when I put it in FCP, according to the frame size, it is 2:1. How the crap do I figure out how to make the proper sized letterbox to make it "real" 2:1 when I can't find anything telling me it isn't? I have boom mics to cover with those boxes!

Um... Last I checked, 2048 x2 was 4096. So, yeah. Assuming they *shot* at 2:1, and not 16:9, you should be ok.

Well, actually, OK is not the word I'd use, now that I re-read and see you've got booms to cover. Sounds to like someone in your shooting crew was misinformed.

What are the native dimensions of the footage?

More importantly, if it's 2.3something:1, I hope the boom mics are on the side, cause you'll have to crop from the sides to get to 2:1.

Or, if it's 2:1 already, just resize each shot with the mics till they're out of the frame.
