  1. #1 RED ONE M-X upgrade question?
Jim has announced that RED ONE owners will be allowed to upgrade to the M-X sensor before the EPIC or Scarlet ships.

I'm just thinking about logistics (and I know that RED has been great about getting camera's in and out) like with the audio board upgrade program, but does this announcement mean that it's likely that the EPIC and Scarlet program will be delayed?

If so, and enough time goes by, do you think we will be seeing a different sensor in the EPIC by the end of 2010 or early 2011?

If we got the M-X in the REDONE, i'd be in no hurry to get the EPIC with the same sensor (M-X) vs. an EPIC with a larger sensor (??).

I know it's a tricky subject since many things have already been announced....but, we've been trained that "everything is subject to change"

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

My thinking is that the boards in the Epic will make it so much more appealing even with an equal sensor to the upgraded Red One. Many will want the higher frame rates and other goodies like the handshake between the new features to come in REDCINE-X and the Epic (and Scarlet) exclusive dialogue.

For me, it will be a financial decision only. If possible, I will move to the Epic. If not, I will be satisfied that my camera will still be comparable in some respects.

As for what sensor a delayed Epic might have? Who knows... Nothing would surprise me. They lost the ability to surprise me about a year ago. Now I expect the unexpected.

I hate to speculate, but would you be satisfied with the M-X upgrade for 12 months if you new that you could get and EVEN better EPIC than the current offering.

I know price would be a factor, but I guess I am curious.

I guess I would have to say, and if money were available, that it would in part depend on what I planned on shooting. On second thought, I think it is best to get to the Epic as early as possible, since all one has to do is add a new brain with whatever sensor is newest. Once you are in Epic, your camera is instantly upgradeable.

On the other hand, a RED One with the M-X sensor would have a nice sweet spot. Too many decisions. Maybe someday I'll get drunk and then decide.

Where did Jim say that the RED One M-X update will be released before Epic???? I'm incredibly interested in the update.

You are comparing 2 complete different camera's, frame speeds are one of them for instants.
