    Warning - marketing effort follows

    Hi Folks,

To make things easier from a tape backup and archival perspective for the RED digital workflow, I've twisted my product manager's arm and she's agreed to a special offer specifically for REDUser.net forum members.

Any new hardware / software bundle purchased between now (Jan 4) and January 31st, 2010 will get an added bonus of extra media included for free. This applies to all BRU PE and BRU Server bundles from the standalone USB DAT72 up to the 2 Drive configured 2024 library.
    • For any standalone tape drive, we will include 2 additional pieces of media
    • For any Doubler Station, we will include 4 additional pieces of media
    • For any library, we will include 5 additional pieces of media
This translates to a saving of $50 to $300 depending on the bundle purchased and media type used.

All TOLIS Group hardware/software bundles include BRU Software, Tape Drive / Library, ATTO Technology SCSI or SAS HBA, appropriate SAS or SCSI cable (and terminator for SCSI drives), Cleaning cartridge and media.

Additionally, TOLIS Group's support provides a single contact point for full support for all components, so no more jumping from vendor to vendor trying to find out what's going on in the event of a problem.

For more information, please visit our bundles page at Production Backup Bundles.

This offer applies to both BRU PE and BRU Server bundles and only applies to new orders placed between Jan 4 and Jan 31, 2010 and you must identify yourself as a REDUser.net forum member to receive the free additional media.

    Happy New Year!

    Hi Tim

If I want to just buy your software, as I already have a Quantam LT04 drive with retrospect (crap), where would you recommend to get it from?

    Also would this work fine?

    kind regards

Hi Tim I am in the market but I am wondering when LTO 5 is going to be available as that would suit my needs a lot better. Any news on that front?

    Hi Mike,

LTO-5 is on a slight delay and manufacturers are just shipping the next round of engineering samples. While I can't disclose more than that, I will recommend that if you need tape soon, you shouldn't wait for LTO-5.

However, once LTO-5 completes engineering review, we will be offering all of the current LTO-4 options in LTO-5 versions. Of course, pricing will be different.

    Hi Tim
I am educating myself on this still. I just read the Wiki about LTO and the linked pages to the consortium and some of the companies blather. Any other resources you would recommend for the technology and data intensive back up strategies?

We've got a lot of general process articles on our main web site in the knowledgebase. You might want to dig through some of those.

In a nutshell, he 1840 is the bigger, faster brother of the 1760.

Yes, you can. You can read LTO 1, 2, 3 & 4 media. You can write LTO 3 & 4.

Chris, I've got a video storage round-up for you coming soon-ish. Along with a couple others in various stages of completion. I've just had most of my equipment tied up for the past few months and have been out of town a lot. ...Working on it.
