RED is fluid. Things change. That is not a bad thing if the motive is good.

Change is fundamental to RED. Specs change. So far, our design and specs have changed for the better. The original RED ONE (NAB 2006) had no REDCODE RAW. Originally 4K could ONLY be recorded out the RAW port. REDCODE RAW turned out to be one of the things that makes RED so important. You now can record to Compact Flash. We didn't charge extra for it.

Our Industrial Design has changed because we are listening. We continue to do so.

Our system is modular to accept change. Our featues are changing because we are learning. Change is good. Don't be surprised if more things change. And we'll promise to try not to charge you for change.

    Jim

People need to see that "Specs will Change" isn't a negative caveat, rather it is a progessive declaration that defines and permeates the essence of Red.

Lead on Jim, I know we're in good hands!

RED is "fluid" is very, very appropriate to me on many levels here are two short quotes by Bruce Lee on the power of fluid...(and I have always from the very beginning approached RED--as a philosophy and as a Cameraman-- in terms of Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do)

    1. "Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves."

    2. "Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water my friend."

To me RED is the Bruce Lee of Cameras... it's pholosophy of fluid is my Jeet Kune Do... (definition--Jeet means 'to stop, to stem, to intercept,' while Kune means 'fist' or 'style,' and Do means 'the way' or 'the ultimate reality.' In other words--'The Way of the Intercepting Fist.') This the place where many styles become one style... I could on...

Can't wait to see what's next... it's pretty mind-blowing already.

I would be surprised if things didn't change. This shows that you guys constantly think what to improve.

I have confidence in your motivation.

As much as Jim has unleashed this beast upon the world, I'm sure with this fluid process and wanting to make the camera better it has meant unforeseen costs, escalating with each new innovation or improvement. It really is amazing to see the unit remain at the price point. We should consider ourselves lucky. However I will say now whatever cost increases he deems appropriate, I am 100% behind. I doubt there are many here who have ordered a unit who could afford the alternatives to 4K digital acquisition...although wait, there isn't one.

    RED is FLUX.

Heraclitus of Ephesus (ca. 535–475 BCE) said "PANTA R(H)EI" about 2500 years ago.

"This led to the belief that change is real, and stability illusory. For Heraclitus everything is "in flux", as exemplified in his famous aphorism "Panta Rhei" ("Panta Rei"):
"Everything flows and nothing is left (unchanged), or
Everything flows and nothing stands still, or
All things are in motion and nothing remains still."

Luckily the kind of people that are early RED adopters are the kind of people either unfazed or even excited by change.

These days people terrified of change are at a competitive disadvantage.
