    Hello all,

I just placed this beautiful lens up on e-bay (description and pictures below). It is in immaculate condition and was overhauled by Duclos lenses. A really fair price considering the overhaul. If anyone from REDUSER purchases the lens with the current "Buy It Now" price, I will give them a $200 refund off that "Buy It Now" purchase price (so $3,899). Or, you can take your chances on no one swiping this beauty up, and wait until auctions end to see if you can luck out for the price of $3,699 (no additional discount given there, obviously).

Note: I actually don't really want to sell the lens below $3,899, but ebay now makes you list the starting price at 10% lower than that of the "Buy it Now" price. So, I will accept that price if someone hold out until auctions end... even if I think you are getting a steal at $3,899 as it is.

Note: this is not the invoice for the overhaul (which Duclos Lenses will have on file). This was the invoice for myself having Duclos confirm that the lens was still up to specs after I purchased it. They adjusted the back focus. It also shows the proof of the serial number with my name attached.

The Ebay listing for the above lens reads as follows:

"Up for sale is a beautiful Canon 8-64mm T2.4 Super16mm Zoom. Not only is the glass immaculate and in mint condition, this lens has been overhauled by Duclos Lenses in Los Angeles California.*

Mechanically, this lens is in immaculate condition and is silky smooth in both focus and zoom. It feels like a new lens. In fact, the lens has been in a case since it was overhauled and has not been out in the field even once. So, you are in essence getting a freshly overhauled lens. And I don't mean "serviced". This lens was "overhauled" at the cost of about $2,000. *

As seen in the photos, cosmetically this lens is outstanding, too.

    Some Specs:*

    Serial#: 10037
Canon 8-64mm T2.4 , includes a Chrosziel Fluid Zoom Damper, as seen in images.

If you go on REDUSER.net or Cinematography.com and do a search you will see how this is pretty much universal as the best Super16mm zoom out there. REDUSER has a nice link to some 2K footage shot with this lens. It looks incredible and very filmic.

This Canon 8-64 is known as being both incredibly sharp, with little to no breathing at all. In addition, it has a very short close focus of about 2 feet.* In comparison, the Zeiss zooms breathed horribly, had a close focus of 5 feet, and had all sorts of issues. The 8-64mm was the "go to" lens for Super16mm.

I bought this particular lens from Marcus, the owner of Whitehouse audio / visual in Los Angeles, when they were going out of business. As mentioned, it had just been overhauled at Duclos lenses in Los Angeles for the amount of around $2,000 when I purchased it. Please feel free to verify all this with the serial number by calling Duclos after auctions end. I'm a regular customer of their shop, and Paul Duclos will know who you are talking about if you mention it is one of Todd A. lens.

I hate to sell this lens because it is in immaculate condition, but I purchased two expensive Angeneiux zooms from Paris and feel I am covered for both short and long zooms. The lens deserves to be out with someone using it versus just sitting in the case.

As seen in the photos, I should also mention that the lens is currently in a Aaton mount. But getting a B-mount or PL mount option is very easy through someone like Duclos lenses or Visual Products. If you are in the market for a Canon 8-64mm Zoom for your RED or Arri, don't pass up on this fantastic lense because of some confusion about the Aaton mount. Used, you can get a mount solution for a couple hundred dollars. The mount is interchangeable via eight screws and can just be swapped out with a B-mount or PL mount. Again, you will be hard pressed to find this lens in this sort of condition, let alone at this more than fair price, too.

I've attached an invoice from Duclos lenses from when after I purchased it from Whitehouse Auido / Visual, Duclos checked it out for me and adjusted the back focus. As mentioned, the lens has been in a case since the overhaul and has not been in the field since. You are getting a freshly overhauled lens!

I'm sure if you are in the market for a RED 2K or Super16mm zoom, you know this lens sold for around $18,000 new, which should give you an idea of the build and optical quality. And on the used market these would sell for $8,500 up until a few years ago. In fact, Visual Products has a 8-64mm for sale for $8,900. Of course, this is ebay, so the prices are meant to be a bit lower, but the price of this lens at about half price I feel is incredibly reasonable.

That about sums it up. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Oh, and I should also mention that since I am not a dealer, but just a indie film guy, I do not take returns and have to sell the lens "as is". But please feel comfortable knowing that I have a perfect ebay feedback record. You will not be disappointed. Also, if you are in the Orange County / Los Angeles area, you are more than welcome to make an appointment to come see the lens in person prior to auctions end. Lastly, the buyer will be responsible and required to purchase shipping insurance for this lens for the full amount that it has sold for (unless picking up the lens in person, which is fine as well)

    Thanks and happy bidding!"

    Hello,
There never, ever, has been an owner of Whitehouse Audio Visual named Marcus.
Additionally, Whitehouse Audio Visual has never, ever, gone out of business, has been in business for over 25 years, and is still in business today.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Ken,

I sincerely apologize to yourself and Whitehouse Audio Visual. Rest assured I am not making the story up. I just have confused the two names of the company, the other of which the name escapes me. Again, I apologize for the error. Generally I am very thorough with making my posts and listing my items (which hopefully comes across). But alas, I seem to have made a slight error this time around with the fact checking.

I'll be honest in saying that I was going off of memory on the name as I was making the ebay listing, as the real credibility lay in the overhaul in the lens at Duclos (which is of course 100% accurate). My lens backstory, relaying to where the lens originated from, was to give the buyer some sense of the lens history. And the value there was, in my estimation, that the seller selling the lens to me had dropped the price below market levels because he was in the midst of a bankruptcy. Which in turn, was the reason that I would be able to pass that fair below market value of the lens to another individual in this selling. Again, 100% true.

And of course, Duclos Lenses would know the company for which Marcus was running, as he was a regular customer of theirs (and again, I physically picked up the lens from Marcus, whom was in the middle of working through a bankruptcy with the company he owned)

Next time I am in contact with either Paul or Matt at Duclos lenses, I'll get to the bottom of the correct name of the company Marcus ran. (Matt or Michelle, if you happen to see this post in passing and can read the serial number and track through your records for Marcus's company name, I will give you a fresh $5 bill the next time I am up there).

On a positive note, the lens was incredibly beautiful and would have been up to the standards of any company that cared about their product. As I'm sure yours does. (It certainly was overhauled by one of the best Lens techs in the industry, as opposed to just an after thought of a lesser shop). But of course, the insult to you was the fact that the company Whitehouse A/V was assumed to be no more. So please, again, accept my apology which is sincere.

    Best,
    Todd

P.S.: the lens has been sold... and of course, if necessary, I'll mention the error of Marcus's company name to the buyer with my next communication. (Isaac, if you happen to read this post, please don't have any passing thought thinking something was fabricated. It wasn't in the least. Just the mix up of that one name, for which I feel rather stupid for forgetting. And for which I will somehow have to make up to for Ken and his, very well alive, company Whitehouse A/V).
