Hello, Just wondering if there has been any update to the release schedule? How is the Tattoo program going? Is everything on track, behind, ahead, etc?

Head there might be some news by Red Day, haven't seen anything yet so I just thought I would ask!

    Cheers!

    Hi Jonathan,

There have been a few posts after Red Day, but here is a recap:

    1. Tattoo program hasn't started yet, and has been reduced from about 100 to about 20 or so.

    2. After Tattoo happens, they hope to be able to release Epics after about 2 months.

    3. There is no release date, but Jim mentioned that he will be feeling the pressure if it doesn't happen by Summer (July/August,) though he later clarified this shouldn't be confused with the suggestion of a release date.

That's about it. Things are happening and it's going to be great, but we're still waiting for actual information.

    Jim

So is there anyone who realistically expects the Scarlet to be released before 2011?

I do, and I am pretty cynical and impatient.

I am really torn about the red one owners first thing. I understand people took a chance early on with red, and i understand gratitude. On the other hand I understand the "Old Boys Club" and "Rich get Richer" business models as well.

If its a week or two to wait for red one owners to have first crack, that is ok, it it is months, that might irritate me too much to want to play that game. I believe in supporting customers, but not in barriers to new customers.

all I am saying is I think it should be this summer, unless the roll out is all kinds of weird and uneven.

I can't imagine it won't be out before 2011. They were shooting for may/june so I would expect late summer.

I don't think RED is playing any kind of game. They are going to make Scarlet in volume but they couldn't be blamed if they sent out a couple hundred Scarlets and waited a month or two for feedback before they released thousands. Do you really send out 5000 units the first week and hope the first production run was flawless? It's not my business to know for sure, but it sounds risky to me.

Ultimately RED has said Scarlet will be mass produced - unlike RED One.

Relax! Jim stated there will be plenty of cameras for everyone and the wait won't be long.

Look at the bright side theres always a 7D

Everyone keeps saying relax! typed words intrinsically have a passive aggressive tone, or a tone we project on them. I am calm.

That said, I think I misrepresented myself about the "Red Game". I think a beta release is awesome. I think letting the first filled orders be for Red One owners is fine. All their prerogative and right.

But imagine if its like the M-X upgrade, and slowly each R1 owner gets and email, then decides, then calls... Weeks and Weeks go by. Months...

*A lone tear falls and splashes on my desk*

just kidding, i am not even sitting at a desk!

I can see them doing a small first production run that will go mostly to existing Red customers, including major rental houses. Sort of a production QC check. But as soon as production is fully ramped up the flood gates will open.
I hope the 2/3" cinema model won't be far behind the fixed version.

    David,

what mount and lens are you thinking for the cinema version?

Let me guess, you own some badass PL mount glass already, making that the no brainer decision?
