Hey guys, I'm glad to see all the footage and stills from RED Alert! and from the RED camera itself and everything but I haven't noticed anyone asking about how the lenses are.

I know that the RED lenses, both 18-50mm and 300mm, are being used at the moment. Are there any comments you guys can make about them? (ie. breathing, comparisons, ect.)

Also, has anyone tried using still lenses yet to see how they perform and compare?

The still mounts are not ready yet. We used the Red 18-50 and 300mm as well as a set of Zeiss standard speed primes. My overall impression was that they all performed exceptionally well for sharpness, the 18-50mm breathed the most but not horribly, you can see an exreme example here...

Other than that the Red lenses exhibited a slight yellow bias as compared to the Zeiss lenses, which were dead neutral, but it's quite plesant and in a RAW workflow not an issue at all. In fact you could mix as many different lenses as you wanted with minimal worry about color differences because the way RAW works you can easily match them.

Doing good. She's still not happy with the payment options but we're going to talk to RED about that once my 1-month notice comes up.

Hi Evin, do you know if the Red 18-50 lens physical dimensions are published anywhere? I'm especially curious about the maximum outside diameter of the lens.

    I think it's about 110mm... I'm probably wrong, though.
