  1. #1 Failure to Read Frame Error
I searched this, but no dice. Is this just a memory buffer issue?

Just did my first job with 4k .R3D files using AE CS4. Final comp size was 1920x1080 and everything was working fine, our renders as we refined the project were all half-resolution, no issues.

Rendered out the final 5 min and 30 sec video at full resolution, and I had the render choke several times (writing .TGA sequences) giving me the error message that it failed to read the frame from the .R3D source file. It I restarted the render on the same frame that failed, it would work. This seemed to happen at random intervals.

    Known issue? Bug? RAM issue?

Same with my project at The Moment.
Happening randomly when I do a Ram preview.
Some clips won't play at all.
Anyone knows a soloution to this?

Try getting into the Secret preference menu and setting the purge image cache to every 0 frames. Helped me get through some renders.

    The Error I get is:

After Effects error: Error (4) reading frame from file ...

It happens with only a few clips.
Tried the secret menu - doesn't help
    Even Redalert crashes
The R3D files seem to be split up into 3 in the Folder
Each one about 1 min. of length
But it was a full 3:20 take
    This is really ergent.
Getting the same Error on Mac and PC
    Please help...

The spanned .R3D file(s) are normal, there is a size limit so longer takes get spanned across segmented files. AE has no issue with this. All my experience with this leads me to believe it's a RAM issue... so if purging image cache after every 0 or 1 frames doesn't help, make sure your RAM settings in AE are tuned for the kind of rendering your doing (ie. multiprocessor or normal) and make sure you have enough RAM allocated for the job.

Aside from that... render to image sequences so if you get a failure you can pick up where you left off... and if your trying to RAM preview at Full resolution... don't.

    Thanks Brandon...
I think its all set up - it just happens to some clips
Is it possible this issue is up to the camera using built 30 but AE just supporting 18?
Also in another thread it was said that creating new proxies could help.
    I'll try that
