  1. #1 need of a follow focus
I am need of a follow focus that will work with my canon 7d and soon to be scarlet s35. I don't want to have to spend money twice. also the arri is out of my price range.

I love my Petroff follow focus. Simple, light, and tight. Reversable too.

I've been using the chrosziel DV Studio Rig follow focus for several years now, first on my letus adapter rig, then on the red and now also on the 7d. It's expensive but really well built and will last forever. The cheap ff units are really a false economy, I should know, I went through a few of them. You can occasionally find these units used as they were sold for HVX rigs.
here's a photo of it on my 7d rig:

    How is it reversable?
You can put it on the right or the left side of the camera ?
You can reverse the rotation of the gear for Nikon lenses ?
    How ?

Yes, the Petroff mini-follow focus is reversible both ways. You can mount it on either side of the camera, and it also reverses direction if you wish for Nikon lenses. This is rather cleverly done by just rotating the gear block that the lens drive gear is attached to. Take a couple of seconds, and no tools. Also, it has a .7:1 reduction ratio, so it helps on the "short focus rotation" of still lenses by giving the focus knob more travel than a 1:1 does. Beautifully built.

I'm using a Birger Mount/Impero on my red - its taken a while to get it up to full functionality but it's a really great system. I think Birger is working on something for the 7D so you might be a good idea to give him a call.

How do you find the red rails works with the 7d? Comfortable?

works fine, I'm only using one rail to get back to the shoulder pad. I've actually changed this setup now and I'm using a petroff dv rails system for the camera, still with the ultralight arms and the red handles. The croszeil ff is ideal for the small camera but I also use it with my Pl lenses on my red. It also has a reversing gear but I don't use it that much, only when I use the zeiss zf's and have an assistant.
I don't want this to get into being about the 7d but rather keep it the original subject which was about a follow focus which would be useful now and still work with the scarlet or epic later.

Vance, where did you purchase your petroff? b&h is the only place I can find it for sale here in the states. Also what gear ring are you using with it? all I can seem to find is ones that work with only the hvx, dvx, fx1, and etc.
