NAB 2010: What is this?

Anyone knows what this is? First I thought it was just like a cheese-stick, but why is it shiny inside the holes?

It's clearly a Knightrider interface for communicating verbally with the camera. I think they're calling it the Self-Awareness Module...

Methinks you are right - when the camera talks back to you, the lights synchronize it´s words, right?

Dang, I had wished for an accessory that would record the distance along with the image - as was talked about way when the R1 was just a concept.
