  1. #1 Nothing will render
I've been lurking on reduser for a while now, but this is my first post.

I purchased a new MacBook Pro a few months ago - prior to that I was rendering Red footage from a company owned MacBook Pro that was a couple of years old.

My new MacBook won't allow me to render anything that's ProRes - I typically use RedAlert because I only render a few clips at a time for my reel, but I've also tried RedCine and Red Rushes to no avail.

In RedAlert I can render H.264 files all I want, but the moment I select ProRes it crashes. If I render through Red Rushes or RedCine, I can get a ProRes file to render, but it's only audio and has no picture.

I'm working off Mac OS X v10.5.8 - 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. I've tried various versions of the Red software, including the most recent versions as well as older versions a friend had on her hard drive.

I've heard rumors that some other people have had similar problems and it's got something to do with the Mac OS, but that seems very strange and difficult for me to believe.

If anyone has encountered this, knows how to remedy it, or has any ideas, I'm at my wits end trying to resolve this. I've shot two Red features recently and I can't get use any of the footage for myself at this point unless I resign myself to accepting H.264 files (and my previous two Red features are already rendered as ProRes files).

Thanks for any and all help!

Do you have Final Cut Studio 2 or 3 installed?

You need FCS for the ProRes codec to be available.

You can try to copy the codec from another Mac, but I tried it once and it didn't work. Of course I may also have done it wrong. That process has worked with other codecs. (DVCPRO HD was where I used it most commonly.)
