Yeah I kinda think they need to rush things a little...or at the very least move at an accelerated pace. I know you get crucified for drawing parallels with Scarlet and the 7D or 5D MkII but when corporations like FOX back the filming of an ENTIRE episode(and a high rating quality one at that)on the back of 'line skipping' DSLr technology...makes you think.

Sure the specs of the Scarlet blow any DSLr out of the water...but they are here today, sitting in stores while Scarlet is just specs on a website(to us anyway) When Scarlet is released in 6-12-18 months time and in any quantity of numbers...what gen technology will Canon be on? or Nikon for that matter?

hmmm... there is one spec where the Scarlet 2/3s do not blow the 7D, and particularly the 5D out of the water, and that is shallow depth of field. That is one of the things that makes those 5D pictures so gorgeous, a shallower depthe of field than a Red One, or any other Digital Cinema camera for that matter.

Even once the Scarlet 2/3s are out, there will still be a demand for FF35, and for that, from Red, we'll have to wait a while longer, until then, the 5D will still be an attractive camera, and who knows what Canon, or Nikon, or others will come out with by then.

3 What priority will RED One owners have over those who have been saving all funding for Scarlets/tons of modules?

RED ONE owners who have not executed their cameras for Stages 1-3 of the EPIC program will have a short window of priority on Scarlet packages.[/I]

So I guess this reads that all of us that are in stages 1 to 3, will have to wait to get our Scarlets after those that have not Executed their R1's get a chance to get theirs?

After that first come first serve?

I think at this point I will likely only get one Fixed Scarlet, but will surely get TWO 2/3 Interchangeable Scarlets for S3D Rig, so just kinda of trying to understand this.

I said it when the specs were first announced, and I'll say it again:

#21 is going to use the output from the gyros (which we already know is saved in metadata) along with software and maybe firmware to make a virtual steadicam.
Makes sense since Scarlet Fixed is the run and gun Red.

Along with money saved on the included modules and free software, that makes Scarlet Fixed almost free!

Oh, and dust/weathersealing too, please.

Many people strive for deep focus!

It may be a fad for some, but I think for most it is :

1. A directing tool, use to isolate part of a scene, the spectator (obvioulsy) looks where the image is sharp

2. An esthetic choice, sometimes deep focus is desirable, other times not, but in most cases I can't help prefering images where only a portion of what is in the frame is sharp.

3. A financial choice, lighting and decorating a scene where only a smalll portion of it is in focus is much cheaper thant the when everything is in focus

I strongly believe, the demand for shallow depth of field will continue for a long time to come.

Thanks for the update, Jarred! Quick follow-up question:

These algorithms are pretty hardcore.. The same algorithms used on the EPIC to control autofocus on the RED FF35 lenses ( and canon and nikon electronic lenses ) have trickled down to Scarlet.

So, does the S35 Scarlet with a Canon or Nikon mount also inherit these autofocus algorithms? Or is that limited to the Epic & Fixed Scarlet cameras?

Oh no sorry that came across wrong, I'm talking about shooting at 1.4 on FF35, its unnessesary. Shallow depth of field 4-5.6 has a place as a storytelling tool but shooting daylight ext at 1.4 with 3 ND's is just a fad in my opinion.
