I have seen the footage from the 7D and close ups look good with all of the shallow dof but when you go wide and need detail in smaller areas it really does not hold up.
That's because the H.264 1080P recording barely resolves 750 lines. The Scarlet will record 3K RAW in comparison, resolve probably about 2.8K, and make excellent downsamples to 1080P.

    Rock on!
Contrary to common belief, the answer to Life the Universe and Everything is not "42". it's actually
    41.998996835622812838894757620021847639958

The problem is that Deep Thought did not have access to Graeme's FLUT technologies.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info. I was considering it (7D) but then I actually shot some stuff and....not as good as my friends were raving.

So I decided to stick with Red, especially after seeing the clarity in the fine details of the shot over London (on Red day). I'm really looking forward to seeing some Scarlet footage with similar scenarios though and not just shallow dof shots. Those are great in their own right but I'd like to see the resolving power of 2.8k.

You know, there's this thing called tripod.
Scarlet will have plenty of resolution to zoom in the post!
Too bad that I guess my girl will be born before Scarlet...or good...

I don't know. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would have been a few minutes longer I guess.

Woah, didn't mean to troll. I know the Scarlet will blow it out of the water, it'll just be cool to see it, I think. Or heck, a DSLR/Scarlet/Epic comparison even! I'm not picky...

    Maybe just use your imagination.

    Hey Jarred,

how can you leave us poor sods dangling like this? Isn't there some exotic lizard creeping across the desk in front of the 2/3' test-bed, by any chance? Hit record for a couple of seconds, and you'd make our day.

Actually I've got no right to complain, as I'm about to go on a two day sailing trip with Hans von Sonntag (he teaches at my school). Team-building-exercise. Sadly, he's not bringing his red one...

    all the best
