I have just been to a 3D workshop where we tried different rigs, cameras and had a lot of discussions about workflow. One of the discussions were about RED. We were told by one of the teachers, that it is very very difficult to use the RED1, when shooting 3D because the camera is very hard to synch with another Red camera. The problem should be that when you genlock the cameras, you donīt get the exact reading out of the sensor but a reading from a buffer in the camera. In order to make perfect 3 D you need to have two systems that works identical and if the sensor read out is not exactly the same place in both cameras at the same time, you ask for " 3D" trouble. The workaround as we were told should be to turn the cameras on and off until we were lucky to catch the right synch.
I have noticed a few 3D productions been made from this forum, so is there something about the talk? What are the 3D experiences when using 2 RED cameras together?
