I was going to look for a watercooling rig sice they have become more common and affordable. Also watercooling is quieter. You also said the xeon is no faster unless paired with another xeon. But the whole point is that i can do that later and get double performance and 12 total cores with hyperthreading. Although in your way you could also just buy a faster cpu or motherboard for close to the same amount.

Good to know about the SSDs. Have you checked out the Fusion IO? They are expesnive but they are also supposed to be more efficient than SSDs.

Upgrading to those next year when I get more funds :)

But yeah, PCI raid cards in general will always yield better results because of the bandwith lanes.
