    Changes since last release:

    • RED Rocket Breakout Box HDMI output
    • PsF monitor out fix
    • Stability improvements

Looks like the HDMI out is now live. If anyone gets a chance to test it with the HP Dreamcolor please post here.

May as well go through a Red Rocket Breakout box instead of an AJA converter box. Plus, you never know when you might need to hook up a 4K display. :-)

Are we sure bit depth out of HDMI from breakout box is 30 bits? If so ... that's a pretty big deal -

i was going to suggest the same thing. I can't recall seeing that in specs--from what little i had seen of specs and hence the reason i pulled trigger on the AjA converter.

    Rob? Deanan?

What are the specs for the HDMI out on the Breakout Box?

If you say it's 10-bit I will order one straight away....

It is supposed to be once fully implemented. Deanan said in the past that for the 10bit HDMI we would need the BOB. HDMI is now enabled... :)

Now I wonder, will the RRBOB give me better HDMI than what I get from the Rocket HD-SDI going through an AJA Hi5-3G converter? How is the BOB enabling HDMI? My gut feeling is that the BOB is doing HD-SDI to HDMI conversion as well. Otherwise, I don't see why we could not have a lower-cost cable option right out of the RED Rocket to give us 10bit HDMI....

Yeah, I was assuming they were doing conversion from HD-SDI too just like an AJA box. That is why I never pulled the trigger on an AJA. The Red Rocket BOB is a bit more expensive, but you never know when you may need to hook up a 4K display.

the BOB and SDI out only work with playing R3D files, right?
So working in Smoke or Resolve and adding to the RED footage (like adding a mask or doing a composite) would not out put via the BOB or SDI from the RR?????

Just trying to figure out what the value of having SDI or BOB from RR is apart from if you are only doing dailies or transferring to tape of just your RED footage.

    Right.

Right. Smoke or Resolve (when they support it) just use the Red Rocket card for debayering. The rest is done on your GPU and monitored using the display connected to your computer.

If you don't need to hook up a display directly to the RR or have the extra HD-SDI outputs then you don't need the BOB.

Think of it like an AJA converter but specifically for the RR with the added ability to hook up a 4K display. Keep in mind some of the other options available (nVidia $$) to hook up a 4K display to your computer. Also, it isn't all that much more than an AJA box. And most importantly, it would look way cool in the rack.

I emailed my rep when I ordered the Red Rocket BOB. This was the reply:

From what I have been told, the HDMI outputs should support both 8-bit and 10-bit now.

I have never hooked up my Dreamcolor to a 10-bit source. How do I know if I am getting the full deep color?
