I agree, use the slower 2.66 cpu and clock to 4ghz, with the EVGA mobo and dual CPU's it should steam - remember, the cpu is seriously important for RED playback, the GPU does nothing. The GPU accelerates effects only - so you need the fastest and max cores possible to get multiple RED streams in real time. My system has 4ghz overclock from a 2.66 i7 - if I turn off the clock it barely plays quarter res RED4K, overclock on, plays half rez RED4K no problem. Buy a pre built mobo cpu ram cooler overclock package with guranteed performance, most decent companies will recomend psu's depending on graphics cards you want to use as well. Then stick it in a box and off you go - yeah the H50 water cooler is great too!

Also don't mess with anything less than 6GBs sata III SSD for system drive. believe me, with Windows 64 bit, the whole experience becomes rock solid, almost impossible to crash.

Forget the Supermicro mobo's as far as I know they never OC.

    have fun

Trust me, you don't want an unstable PC for the purpose you're building the rig for.
Petri, Some of the new motherboards and BIOS are making overclocking much easier as I'm sure you are aware of, and I personally will mildly overclock. But I agree. I don't think Jay will need to. His build will have so much horsepower and his workload sounds like it will be GPU heavy. Reliability will probably be of greatest concern. I like that he has chosen the Xeons over an i7. To me the Xeons are like Clydesdales while the i7s are like racehorses.

Elsie, i don't know if 470 is supported by adobe, and maybe like fcp, any of this application get all the power from the gpu. Sometimes you can get the same from 470 than 285, because the application are not design for that.
I get this from adobe website

Supported NVIDIA graphics cards for GPU acceleration
    Quadro CX (Windows)
    Quadro FX 3800 (Windows)
Quadro FX 4800 (Windows and Mac OS)
    Quadro FX 5800 (Windows)
GeForce GTX 285 (Windows and Mac OS)

I think if you use one monitor per gpu you can have only one monitor in the first and more power for gpu effects.

    Saludos,

    Jose.

Nice options, I'm digging the CoolerMaster Haf X.

This is the one I have... could nor be happier. Completly toolless and love the hotswap bays.

As far as overclocking goes on the my motherboard there is an overclock button I simply pushed that and it wen from 3.3 to 4.1 on my 980x without doing anything at all. I did end up tweaking it a bit more to go to 4.3. With my new cooler I am well with in the limits of this chip for thermals....I have never had any problems with intel chips wwhen oc'd.

For watercooling there are easy solutions now that you just pop on...like coolmaster and corsair's which are sealed.

Jose, yeah the 470 will probably be supported soon and other posters on the board have pointed to a hack for using it now. But I see your point as well as your reasoning on the monitor distribution.

I can't tell you how helpful you all have been.. This overclocking thing seems like a pretty cool concept.. But I need to learn about it. For now, I'll just keep trucking along.

I really need to know any bonafide benefit over a RAID 0 before 9:00 A.M - 12:59 PM Pacific Time, because Newegg has a Shell Shocker deal on aOCZ Vertex Seriesw OCZSSD2-1VTX120G 120GB 2.5" SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

: the link probably won't work for the drive until 9:00 am
