    Excellent work. The first image your posted of the deer is incredible!

    I am a professional photographer, and I already have a full set of Canon L lenses. The only problem I have with Canon lenses and shooting with the future Red Scarlet is the potential for breathing during rack focusing. It looks terrible. My plan is to buy a RED s35 50mm prime along with my Scarlet s35; any rack focusing shots I can use that lens, and everything else will utilize the Canon L lenses. To me this is the only practical way of getting around the breathing problem. Anyone here believe there will be noticeable difference between an s35 RED prime and a Canon L?

    I've been away shooting but am now back in Tokyo for a little while so I can finally post some 4KHD images you've all been asking for. Bear in mind these are the RAW images pulled directly from RedCine-X - there's no colour correction or sharpening done to them compared to the 1920x1080 versions I posted previously. Feel free to push and pull them in any direction and post your results (1920x1080 would be great)! I'm curious to see what people can do with them.

    To answer your questions, most shots ran with at least a 1/100th second shutter or higher along with C-PL and ND filters on exterior shots. I mostly use my Canon EF50mm f/1.2L USM and Canon EF24mm f/1.4L MkII USM primes stopped down to around f2.8 or f4 for pin sharpness and for my zooms I usually stop down to f4 or f5.6 to get optimal sharpness. Each lens has its sweet spot so with Mysterium-X giving such high sensitivity I try to use that to advantage whilst being able to be creative with my T-stop to choose the level of bokeh I want for each shot (like the samurai swordplay in the forest shot where I think I was at T4 or T5.6 to hold all the tree details around him).

    I've been using the new Kenko Zeta series of screw-in filters and love them for lightweight work like this (I have a full set of IRND Formatt 4"x5.65" filters for regular cinema work to go with our RedRock Matte Box). The Kenko Zeta UV41 clear filters basically live on each lens, then I add Zeta ND8 and/or Zeta C-PL filters as needed. I haven't found any IR contamination or image degradation using the new Mysterium-X OLPF with this combination. (NOTE: The swordfight apparent reflection on the samurai's pants is from before when I put a Zeta filter on that particular lens and is probably due to the standard Canon Protect filter I had on at that time).

    I ran as high as 1/400th second shutter for some of the motion stuff with swords to give that sense of immediacy (the "Saving Ryan's Privates" hyper-real look) whereas the more conventional shots I stayed closer to 1/60th or 1/120th whilst using ND to compensate more.

    As far as lens breathing during a rack focus goes, I'm quite happy with my L primes and zoom. Actually even when there is breathing I don't find it objectionable, as I find a little bit helps one intuitively refocus one's eyes as a rack focus occurs. The total lack of breathing in cinema lenses sometimes bothers me more, as the focus shifts before I can sense it shifting and all of a sudden I find the image I was looking at in focus, has shifted focal point to elsewhere in the image with no visual cues (the breathing) to help prepare my eyes to shift to a new point.

    Wow Paul, your shots look great! I was wondering if you are using the Birger mount to adapt to the Canon EF70-200mm lens? I am seeing a lot of questions on Reduser pop up regarding ND filters vs. IRND filters with MX. Are you using IRND filters? We have noticed a harshness creeping up on some of our footage, but cannot nail where it is coming from. We have been shooting outside at 320 and this may be some of our problem. Do you generally stay at 800ISO?
