I'm about to pull a trigger on the 17-50 RPZ and presume I would have to ditch the MMB-1 which I grew to really like using with RPPs and the 18-50 RZ.

    Any alternatives?

    Cheers,

    Milan

PS I'm sorry if this has been discussed already. I'll presume it's buried somewhere in the original 150 page 17-50 thread.

Just found this post by Mitch Gross, any updates?

I confirmed with Jarred that it is a 144mm front on this lens, compared to the 114mm on the old 18-50. If you pull the bellows back on the MB20-II the rear ring is 143mm, and Jarred says that there is enough fudge factor in the sizing that they'll just squeak together. This is likely also true for the accessory 143mm back available for the MMB-1, although I will not know if that mattebox will cover the 17mm until I get one in my hands (or RED decides to send me a ray trace!).

it works like a charm with the 17-50. You just have to get the 143mm back.

Great news, thanks Ryan. (I presume you are talking about MMB-1?).

    Hi Milan,

Can't speak for the MMB1, but Mitch is right about the MB 20, if you pull the rear bellows, it just squeaks in.

Thanks Stephen, I can use the same 143mm rear ring on MMB1, so that's the good news.

I'm still curious if MMB1 covers the lens at 17mm though.

The Vocas MB450 works great, pull the donut/filter ring and the lens slips right it. No vignette either, can't be sure yet about 5k vignette. Not sure if anyone has tested a 17-50 in 5K with the MB 20? I'm guessing that 5K will reveal a few problems with certain mattbox and lens combos.

When shooting with the Duclos at 12mm 4.5ws it clears the MMB-1 so I think you'll be safe.

So can the MB-20 II with rear bellows pulled effectively serve as a clip-on with the RPZ 17-50 (without using the clip-on module attachement for the MB20)?

Would be great if it was secure enough to do so, especially in trying to keep camera setups low-profile.

    Cheers,
    Clint
