Red primes on Varicam2700

Because the Red primes are affordable I'm thinking about putting them on my Varicam2700.
Is this possible? and what do I need?

Varicam is a 3-CCD 2/3" Chips so the sensor on your camera is too small for these lenses.

RED Primes work with 35mm so your camera needs a B4 to PL mount adaptor which would cost you some light.

RRP are fantastic glass and produce great 35mm images. Seems you won't benefit from 35mm photography on your Varicam but I guess you could get the glass now and in time purchase a RED or other 35mm camera.

So rent a RPP set and a adapter and I'm good to go. Sounds terrific.

The better the glass the better my

the varicam would need a PL to B4 adapter, but you are right about the loss of light ;-)

Light loss is between 1.5 and 2 stops. I've used it with zeiss super speeds, which are 1.3. Not sure how the large red pro primes will work with pro 35 adaptor in terms of stress on the b4 mount....probably quite front heavy. Zeiss super speeds tend to be the lens of choice with the pro 35 adaptor as they are quite small. The new leica cine primes will work probably work well as they are so small.

Is the OP talking about using the RPPs to get 35mm dof (which would need the type of adapter mentioned and the associated light loss) or just being able to use the lenses with the same 2/3" DOF which would require a simpler mount adapter?

We have the Panny 3700 and use it with our Red primes and pro35 adapter and it works like a charm.

The weight of the lenses is fine for the adapter but you must use the support for the adapter or else your just asking for trouble.

Do I still have the same lens focal length if I put the lenses onto the B4 to PL to varicam?
So 18mm will stay 18mm. Or is a 35mm adapter needed for that matter?

an 18mm is always an 18mm lens. A wide zoom for a Varical might be 6mm-48mm
