I have a lot of Green screen Footage shot on Red One None MX.
Finishing at 1920*1080 for Blue Ray and Standard DVD

Is it better to do the keying in After effects reading the red files.
Or should I pass it through RedcineX and then key.
If so which is the best RCX preset for keying.

    Would like some advice please.

Because the R3D data is kind of small and processes fast I would key it directly.
This way you are also free in scaling up and down, changing FLUT, curves, etc. if needed.
If you would transcode first you would need to create 16 bit TIFFs for example, to get all the Color Information for keying, what would create huge files. Although After Effects likes image sequences I can't see any advantage in processing the footage first, because AE decodes the R3Ds fast enough. And speed would be the only reason to transcode first, as long as you are using CS5 with newest Color science.

    Think about it a second...
What advantages do you think you get when you transcode first.
None if you use the latest Color science in CS5
In my last Project we had some corrupt clips that needed to be transcoded to 4K TIFFs because we needed to scale them up.
It was a pain in the A* to work with terrabites of those big files.
Just copying them from one drive to another took hours.
    Once again...
What could an transcoded File give you that you don't get in AE?
I tell you: just disantvantages in time, scaling, grading, megabites

Ok Frank. I understand what your saying and I am not disagreeing with you. I am just about to start the project this morning.
When you say Flut in CS5 how do you access this?

Use R3D in After Effects. It's your best solution and it works well.

I want to edit proxies in FCP or Premier CS5.
Then Connect to the R3D files in After Effects for keying and effects.
    Then send to color.

I have search for a few hours today and can't find this workflow.
Does it exist or is there a better way?
I want to end up with edited R3D files in After effects.

Do a dynamic link from Premier and it will bring your timeline right into AE.

I always key EXRs. They're more HDD intensive but the keyer is already really heavy on CPU power so I find the CPU is the bottleneck not the harddrive.

It does however consume a lot of space to convert to uncompressed 4k EXR.
