Coming from a different angle Jim. Do you think this will also be possible on Monstro sensored cameras like the 645? That's my dream camera right there. I know you have some Monstro samples. Is it too soon to guess if HDR will be possible?

Fantastic! Thanks Jim. You have no idea what a subversive revolutionary you are. Keep it up!
And, to ask the question, as asked by others, one more time. Is #21 the same as, or different from, HDRx?
I thirst for footage.
Astonishing Jim and RED Team!!!
I'm guessing that the sheer processing horsepower in combination with high framerates, 5K res and some magic
algorithms all have a part in HDRx.
It seems that an extra 76 frames of 5K "inter-frame" information might be used in between each 24th frame and interpolated into new data. Who knows... Doesn't matter really. What's on screen and how it feels is what counts. But the geek in me would love to know what's happening under the hood. (Of course, I don't expect you to tell us for obvious reasons).
Rock on!
My guess is that we won't know how the HDRx mode works until Red's legal team gets the patent application pushed along. If it's as great as Jim is indicating there is no sense in letting the cat out of the bag just yet...
I hope that the design and HDR technique used is being heavily patented!?! :)
This feature will be the tipping point for digital cinema. We can shoot digital with zero compromise and only gains(too many to list!). If RED do not receive a little gold statue for advancing cinema that would be one of the biggest crimes in our industry!
From the academies site:
"The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards honor the men, women and companies whose discoveries and innovations have contributed in significant, outstanding and lasting ways to motion pictures."
If RED don't tick those boxes then we are all shooting with the barbie cam without even knowing it! ;)
All the best,
Tom
HDR is what I hoped for :-)
