    Hi all,

I hope I'm not re-hashing a thread that has been done to death, but I would be very interested in how Red has done so far in extreme temperatures and humidity, and any tricks ( like having frozen vegetables on hand ) that have seemed to help.

    Thanks and best !

Soderbergh just shot in Spanish jungle in super-intense heat and humidity. He still seems pretty ecstatically happy about the whole Red thing ;)

As with any camera, (especially digital) you'll want to take care of it. Ice packs, heat pads, etc. They used a lot of ice packs for the Spain shoot but bear in mind that that was on a pre-production camera.

Jim & the Red team, being professional perfectionists, re-engineered some stuff after that to improve its high temperature handling ability.

The whole happy history of this is is all on the forums here.

Ah great, jet-lag fading, humor returning.

Nowhere, I'm spanish, born in Madrid, have been more or less everywhere in Spain. You can find a few forests, but no jungle man!!!

I guess you can call them whatever you want but it looks like jungle to me. I guess the definition of "jungle" might be a bit loose? They shot in several locations all over Spain... and it was HOT!

It has been mentioned that our sensor temp warnings were set too low on those cameras and we have also made board changes since then. The heat capability is now comparable to any other high-end digital cinema camera spec. After 104 degrees F, start thinking about something... umbrella, external fans between takes, gel packs, etc. The hotter, the more help the camera will need.

You have to go below Sahara(its in a big place we call Africa) to find the closest jungle to Spain. Its only about 2000miles away.

What exactly are you talking about when you say 104F? When air temp is 104 or when camera reads that it's 104 inside the camera?

The word "jungle" originates in India, where it refers to pretty much any wild area, including quite dry and scrubby areas.

While Spain has no lush tropical forest of the Amazonian variety, many of its wilderness areas would be called jungle in India. [/geek]

Be nice to your camera... remember that the camera uses power and generates heat internally, so if it's 104 F outside, it's going to be hotter than that inside the camera.
