  1. #1 More 4K uncompressed stills from the Offhollywood shoot up on HD for Indies
    Hey all -

I've posted about 20 images from the Offhollywood cameras from the first day's shoot we did about a month ago (been busy, sorry!).

Also posted are some stills from about a week later when we had a much better understanding of how to best expose. Quite a striking difference from the car stuff that was posted earlier.

It is all guerilla style, so focus isn't perfect, but there are some interesting things to be learned from the dynamic range, compression, etc. Disclaimer disclaimer, some of the very first footage shot with a Red One in the field, just late getting up.

    http://www.hdforindies.com/2007/10/m...iffs-from.html

On that page are 1/2K JPEGs, clicking the JPEGs opens up a bigger 2K 100% quality JPEG. If you want to download the full 48MB, 16 bit uncompressed TIFF, there is a right click to save file as (DON'T just click!) link as well.

I'd love to see what kind of grading you folks can come up with on these shots, especially the park and Nicole shots. Please do post in this thread, I'd love to see.

Unlike the first batch, I left auto white balance alone, and the only thing changed was the exposure - why process as shot if it'll clip? But processed in DI mode, detail to highest setting, NO SHARPENING, output as 4K TIFF files. Processed with original Kelvin and Tint as shot, using Rec 709 gamma.

Then I added an ID watermark, then did some batch stuff to make the 1/2K and 2K files on the site.

Are they linear or 709 TIFFs?

Export options are linear light, log and REC709. Mike, which did you use?

edited original post to include the fact that was Rec 709, with whatever Kelvin and Tint it was originally shot with.

  6. #6 for instance...
Here's a literally 30 second treatment on one of the shots - levels, s-curves, saturation, light sharpen. Done in Photoshop CS (yes, the old one) on an uncalibrated monitor (other Macs occupied right now).

Intentionally quick and dirty and not precise just to show a starter kit. Yes, I can do better, no time right now.

    : )

Kind of a picture postcard vibe.

A bit more real colo(u)r grading in Shake.

    Almost in two clicks.

First choose GenArts Sapphire Plug in "Film Effects" (Neg Kodak_5245/Print Kodak_2383), that click in True Light-Film Light plug in and choose the profile Kodak Vision Primer, then display rec707, then colourSpace Video.

    Have a look below:

Dynamic range is, after all, the measurement between well saturation (photosite blowout) and noise floor.

Another VERY quick photoshop grade. Something that would be easily achievable in AE or Color. Going for a bit of a music vid / fincher-feature look—bit of green in the shadows and aqua in the highlights.

Also blurred the highlights a tiny bit (imitating a light white ProMist filter on the lens).

With a little more care and some attention to detail they could get much better but I thought I'd throw em up here.

Keep the test footage coming!!! Stewart

complete non-sequitor - a competition for best color correct in fewest clicks...every click counts, and no loading your own pre-built presets!

    : )

Start with an image with a lot of room to push. Prizes at each level, levels defined by # of clicks.

Silly idea, but my brain likes it. Kinda like the old Photoshop tennis matches.
