If all else fails, there should be a local hardware store that sells pipe or dowels and can cut them for you...

If you're in my neck of the woods, I have some. Doubt it, looking at the phone numbers, those are California area codes.

I'm in Denver/Boulder Colorado... So not nearby.

Not that I know where in Venice you are, but there's both Samy's Camera and Keslow in Culver City -- shouldn't be more than 15 to 20 minutes away for someone to run by and grab some.

Home Depot is probably closer and sells steel dowels that may fit the bill, but will be heavy. There's also pipe, but the OD on 1/4" pipe is a bit small and 3/8" is a bit large. You may do fine with either, depending on how adjustable your gear is for clamping.
