I want to shoot in 4K but editing in 2K.

    1) Are the 2K proxies good enough for a Broadcast playout.

    2) Is there a difference to the transcoded 2K material (ProRes).

    3) How long does this transcoding process take (4k to 2k proRes)?

    1.) Yep

2.) difference between the QT proxy and ProRes? To the eyeball, slight. In time, you'll be able to tweak the RAW in the proxies but not the ProRes, so that'll be a meaningful difference when grading.

3.) They are refraining from posting conversion times until they get code more stable and optimized AFAIK

Can't you already effectively tweak the RAW in the proxies as you are working on them in FCP by opening the corresponding .R3D in Red Alert, changing the settings, and the doing a "make Quicktimes". FCP 6 should automatically re-link to the new version.

Nick: yes, that should work. Obviously these are broad controls, not fine adjustments that colorists want and need
