    Hi E.,

Do you think that they might consider a deposit program in the spirit of RED and View Factor Studio... This might help them gauge the interest in their products and serve to give us "ball park figures".

Thanks again for helping out the community...

The S16mm Optar Illumina, that a friend uses with his SR and says that are very good!! are more expensive than the red primes, if I am not wrong 5.000US more for a set of 4. Check their web site.www.optarillumina.com/
The Elite lenses that are connected to the new age kinor cameras, are also more expensive than the reds... So for now red lenses are really a bargain I think. Yet would be interesting to open a discussion about using an OCT 19 mount so we could look for Lomos etc., great lenses and in very good prices. Is it possible to use this mount with the red cam.... Is very similar to the PL a bit bigger I think. I have a set of Lomos that are sitting in a suitcase right now. Nice professinal cine-lenses.

    Andrew,

I can't know yet. As matter of fact, I can disclose how I could be in touch with them and which were the circumstances.

I found that they had a 50mm designed for S16mm but with 35mm coverage. Actually, you can follow this same information on the Cinematechnic website.

Then, I thought that would be interesting to open a purchase group here (it had happened with good success concerning another initiative comprehending a stabilizer that a few could take advantage and, as matter of fact, I'm doing business with two of these good fellows now -- I mean work for real!).

Gregory was terrific, very helpful, giving all the information that I had asked. More than that. He would test it on their projector in order to check the sharpness on the corners as far as the 35mm coverage is concerned. His idea, not mine.

According his own findings, this wouldn't be the right tool for the job. As he said, if some softness could be acceptable on a wide end by any chance, the same couldn't be suitable for a tele like a 50mm. His honesty had immediately earned my confidence. That's when I asked him why wouldn't they think on a S35mm coverage set? Especially granted the RED launch. Above all, after the greatest reviews that I had heard about the Optar Illumina S16mm. That was when I knew that they were actually prepping this launch. This first talk occurred more than three months ago.

    Hope this helps,
    Emanuel

Nope. These S35mm ones won't be more expensive than the RED primes. Actually, I hope they may have an inferior price. Zoom included.

This Is Not An Official Announcement Nor Does This Poster Represent The Optar Illumina Brand. This Is To Advise That The Optar Illumina S35 Lenses Are In The Planning And Development Stage At This Time. The Lenses Will Be Of The Same Quality As Cinematographers Expect From The Optar Illumina Brand And Not The Exact Same Quality As Zeiss As This Poster Suggests. Details Of The Focal Lengths And Delivery Dates Will Be Announced At A Later Date By Lumatech, Inc, The World Wide Distributor Of The Optar Illumina Lenses.
