I need to clean the OLPF sensor of my camera. I used visibleDust Arctic Butterfly with no success. May I use eclipse solution ? Red says that eclipse is safe. May I use a sensor swab?

  2. #2 Eclipse and the OLPF
Yes, Eclipse is safe to use along with the correctly sized Sensor Swab. Or you can the Sensor Swab Plus which has the Eclipse already on it. Remember to use enough pressure to cause the handle of the Swab to bend or you leave dirt and streaks. It may take a few Swabs until you get the hang of it Our web site has a chart which helps you determine the correct size for your camera.

The swab type II seems ok in order to avoid to touch the edges of the olpf sensor.

When using SS, put one small drop (eclipse) on edge of swab, wipe swab in one direction, the flip swab and wipe the other direction, then toss the swab. Check the sensor, if needed repeat with new swab. May take two or three tries to fully clean, but it works well.

Are you sure? Only one drop on the swab?

Yes, one drop, as you are not trying to drown the sensor, just clean it.

Unless you want the edges of the sensor filled with particles, you'll need to go from one edge to the other. I've been cleaning sensors this way for over ten years (starting with $35,000 digiital capture backs, like Phase One), and this procedure works. At first I was hesitant, but soon learned that I'm not hurting the sensor.

Why is this in the COMPLAINT DEPT? Myabe a mod can move to Bugs/Help section?

And, remember, OLPF and sensor are two different things here. You are cleaning the OLPF only here...

    David,

The Red Camera doesn't appear to be listed on your website. Which swab size is appropriate for the Red One?

I'm assuming 2? The Sensor Swab Plus seems like a good option, that way I won't accidentally put to much or too little on.

    Thanks!
