Will Redcine be a native DirectX 10 or DirectX9 API application? I ask because DX10 is orders of magnitude faster than DX9 for certain functions, and has been re-written from the ground up for multiprocessor platforms. Thanks.

Redcine uses OpenGL on both platforms. Critical performance needs are in decompression, debayer and possible compression if you choose a compressed output format.

What exactly made you think that it would be DX? Like they would want it to be single platform, when many people edit in FCP?

By the way, will REDCINE be available for Linux? Just wondering.

I don't ask as a specific platform "fanboy" (windows), I ask as someone who is hoping the software will allow for a great deal of GPU acceleration. In order to really do this in OpenGL, extensions are needed for the specific GPU platform (ATI or NV) and then further cases for which series of ATI or NV.

GPU acceleration is available. REDCINE (and all other RED tools) will for now only be available for Windows & Mac OS X. We will look into other platforms after shipping.

REDCINE does not run on PowerPC processors, needs certain Intel/AMD CPU features and graphics card features. More details on this will be released before the camera ships.
