  1. #1 New Nectar TV Campaign shot on Red
    Hi guys,

this is a small shoot in the scheme of the things here, but it was pretty significant for me as it was my first time directing a live action commercial and this first experience was with a Red one - talk about starting high !

I've been reading on these forums since Red first came out of the DVX forums and have been an avid follower - now I've finally shot something on RED and it's being broadcast!

We shot in 4K and worked to a 1080P master. Ads are broadcast here in the UK in HD and SD and sadly as some channels still have SD over analogue, we had to adhere our supers to 14:9 TV title safe. A real shame as each of the shots was meticulously framed to have space for the supers in 16:9 framing [you'll see the space to the left or right of each logo where they should have sat.]

I was told we had the new Mysterium X sensor in it - you'll have to forgive me if that is inaccurate as I haven't been following those developments. Needless to say the footage was beautiful and as filmic as I imagined.

Each shot is shot seperately and we use an almost 3x4 area to produce half of the 16x9 frame. It'll all make sense when you see the ads. Most of the shots used tilt and shift lenses to achieve an area out of focus for the logos to sing off of.

On some shots, the ability to under or over crank in one simple setting meant we could try things out - it was wonderful !

Here are links to the official Youtube postings by the company they are for:

This last one has my favourite shot of the boys playing Scaletrics.

When I get the A-OK to do so, I'll upload HD versions to see. I've also got some behind the scenes stills of the two day shoot action.

It was an awesome experience with a fantastic crew, a great D.O.P and of course looking beautiful on a RED.

I just want to thank Jim and his team for the vision they brought to life many years ago with RED that I'm finally now able to use. This is the start of an amazing relationship with RED's products now tied to my lifelong obsession with filmmaking.

Thank you so much for making my dreams a reality - this is only the beginning!

    Best,
    Richard

    Thanks Kalani,

I'm waiting for the 1080P versions to come through from the post house for our internal reel and then check permission to upload them with the client. Hopefully it will be yes !
