    Filmed: October 13th
Red Settings: ASA 320, Shutter 1/48.
    Red Zoom 18mm, F11 (approx)

My dad and I were driving to the coast to film a sunset and we happened upon this scene. I already had Red assembled in my lap so we hopped out, got the Red on the sticks and shot this. For post I slid the curve a bit here and there and did a 2k Tiff export to a 1k H264 downres. I know I blew out my highlights on the right portion of the screen but that's what I wanted. I know some want to protect them at all cost, but this is exactly what felt right- I love the way it gracefully loses the detail to the glory of the sun.
    EDIT:
Two mirrors, check out Red Relay! Chris has done some awesome stuff with the site.

This is why I love staying on REDUser until 3am... wonderful new footage from Shawn! :-)

I think it looks great, buddy. At 320, the camera really is noise-free and silky smooth. I know you made a disclaimer already, and I would never question another shooter's artistic motives, but the blown highlights do feel a little "video" to me. That's not to say you made the wrong exposure choice; the way that road softly falls into the warm sunlight looks magnificent... almost surreal. And there are absolutely times when burnt out footage feels appropriate. But the camera itself is looking a little more harsh on those overexposed areas than I'd care for. I suppose everything has its limits.

Anyway, the shot is really nice and I appricate the time you took to share it.

Just an idea: In cases like this, when I want protect highlights to keep them in range, I would put a soft ND in the right third of the pic. Nice shot anyway
