When working with RAW stills, it is common practice to enhance the dynamic range of a photo by using two exposure-levels for the same pic. For example, when I shoot real-estate interiors, I’ll often key out the white, over-blown windows and add detail from another export of the same pic (with lower exposure-level to show exterior detail).

I can foresee this effect looking “fake” on video if taken to the extreme, but it’d be nice to add just a touch of detail in a blown-out sky or window.

Has this been tried yet and if so, is it slick? easy to achieve?

In HDR photography you usually take 4-8 photos one stop
apart and use something like PS CS3 to create the HDR photo.
Stills are one thing, motion is another. Even if you expose RED
in the middle ground you would need to create at least
two other exposures and then that would require combining
all the exposures and build a motion HDR from the image
sequences. Lot's of work. In theory since RED shoots RAW
you might achieve something akin to an HDR image?
Don't know for sure but it is something I am going to try.

Have 3 different REDs with one lens. Then you wouldn't want different motin blur, DOF, or noise than the other areas of the image so you'd use ND filters and you'd only be able to do this in bright light. I don't know though.
November 3rd is likely to be the most watched day in Reduser history. It will be well worth it.
